   The $9B is for the federal flood insurance fund. I didn’t know such a thing existed. It is disconcerting to me that the federal government has to prop up insurance companies like this (and I’m not a Republican).

   And don’t think that the insurance companies don’t have backup, after Katrina the German re-insurer “Münchner Rück” got into financial trouble for a while because of all the claims from across the ocean, can you believe it? So the function of this fund can only be to pay out what the customers rightfully own but that would be withheld by the companies, probably through endless lawsuits. Very strange system for a self-described “capitalistic society”…

   Why do you find that disconcerting? The PURPOSE of government is to channel taxpayer money to Big Business, which is what they are doing.
