I like the inclusion of the phallic symbol as the NRA and the Congressman clutch.
    .
Don’t give up! The solution is technology!
    .
We can do it and everybody can be happy! You can hang your loaded gun on the wall it won’t matter. Your kid can bring it to school! Nobody will get hurt!
    .
A score down the side of the cartridge can fit unto a flange in the weapon, when the gun fires they flange seals the cartridge. if the bullet is exposed to extreme heat the explosion blows out the scored side and the projectile remains on the spent cartridge.
    .
Gun ownership CAN be made “safe!” Don’t let them shift the focus!

It won’t come about, and if by a miracle it does, I’m sure they can make the taxpayer pick up the tab.

The Smart Gun or Personalized Gun is a concept gun that aims to reduce the misuse of guns through the use of RFID chips or other proximity devices, fingerprint recognition, or magnetic rings. Only magnetic devices are readily available.

Are you advocating designing guns to fail the first time it is used?
    1. No one will make that because no one will buy it.
    2. Even if they did it will take less than a month to find a workaround.

One technology solution can be undone by another technology solution. A law won’t stop that from happening.

Sometimes it seems to me the main purpose of a technology solution is to alliviate people from having to have a decent sense of ethics and honor.

    @Baleine

Announcement: I am the poster known as Dredpiratrrobt$. I recently found my old credentials for this handle and for several reasons this is the handle that I will be posting with.
    .
I know it makes no difference to some/many but I want to be clear that I’m not trying to confuse anyone.
    .
    Baliene:
    .
No I am not advocating designing guns that will fail. This is a modern world and we have computer technology that was once super high tech that we now put into dog toys. Meanwhile we haven’t upgraded the security on firearms past the “The safety’s on.”
    .
    1. Aside from the above, Yes they will buy it because they want to own a gun. If you make the gun that complies with the law then you will sell them. If you don’t, then you won’t sell any guns. I’m not in the business of supporting manufacurers who refuse to manufacture products that comply with the law.
    .
    2. “Find a workaround”. So what is it that you are arguing, Baliene? That you can’t do what it is that you say you want to do with the weapon (protect yourself and your family) without breaking the law? Because “That guy” has a weapon that he has figured a work around on makes you less safe in your own home where your weapon works perfectly well? That is unreasoned, Baliene.
    .
    3. “Done/undone” You are trying to make the perfect the enemy of progress. With a technological solution as I have laid out we have reduced the incidence rate by probably 45%. There will still be the high number of gun related deaths caused by household members shooting one or another. But the 10 YO son won’t shoot his friend in the head while showing him dad’s .44.
    .
    4. “Having to have ethics” It is obvious that THAT ship is sailing off into the Blue. You can’t control Motive. Motive + Means create the Opportunity. What we need to do is cut back on the Means.
    .
    Won’t you please help?

    @Radish

Again, I was DPR, now I’m RV (again).
    .
If I understand what you’re saying (and I thank you for having said it, I hope we can move the discussion forward) is that so far we are far behind the technological solution.
    .
I can agree with that. But that is because there is no profit in the equation yet. Regulate this and, well for one thing, you’ll see other nations follow our lead! But then there is the race towards profit.
    .
Say there is a transition period of 7 years. The first two years the manufacturers race to create the best new weapon they can. The next year the Government will sponsor a One for One swap (limit two of each type to a customer for example two .49s for two .45s. two 13 gauge shotguns for two 12 gauges and so on.)
    .
The next year it’s one for two.
    .
The next year it’s one for three ( one AR/gps for 3 AR 15s)
    .
    And so on.
    .
Within 20 years the entire issue will be behind us.
    .
We make it a matter of law that if you manufacture a non compliant gun and it shows up in the USA, your company is forbidden from doing business with a “USA Member” company. (A “USA Member” company is any company that wants to do business in the USA and signs the pledge to comply with USA rules and regulations, one of which being, refusing to do business with any non USA Member company. They already do this within the USA. People and companies in the Financial services industry, for example, can be barred from doing business with every member company. Mike Miliken was barred from life and there is no company on Wall Street that can hire him in any capacity.)
    .
That will mean that manufacturers will make these weapons ONLY, which will make it darned hard for the sorts of slaughter that happen in third world countries.

would like to see you write that comment AFTER you have spoke to one or two of the parents of the slaughtered children. Have you ever seen gun shot wounds besides in the movies? It’s easy to pontificate from your desk. Go meet the parents and give them your speech.

Which comment? RV is the most pro-gun-control on this forum as anyone could be. I would suggest you read RV’s comments more carefully. Unless I’ve misunderstood your outrage and you’re a gun-nut?
