War is about killing and destroying, and the US decided that it had to have a War on Terror (the alternative, a police action to protect and serve, was rejected as a totally unAmerican response to 9/11).
As Stratfor points out, in an old-fashioned war, the two sides wear uniforms, and soldiers on one side are allowed to kill any and all soldiers on the other side without question or hesitation.
The jihadists wear no uniforms, so that means the US has the absolute legal and moral right and duty to kill anyone and everyone NOT wearing a uniform, anywhere in the world, without question or hesitation, in order to keep America safe.
And the only qualms most Americans have is that the US government isn’t killing the potential jihadists fast enough. There are more than three billion of them counting Muslims and Commies and sympathisers, so the US needs to pick up the pace of killing to protect itself.

Not all Americans feel that way. We see Obama using the CIA to fight a war instead of the military. This is not okay with us. We know they can use the drones against us in the same way, and one day probably will. I did not vote for King Obama.

Hey Michael; What kind of “police action” are we to take in Afghanastan?

Here’s a question. What’s the difference between a targeted drone strike and un-targeted IED?

I love the obsession with the drones. Would everyone be as up in arms if it were ground troops delivering the message?

‘Would everyone be as up in arms if it were ground troops delivering the message?’
Yes.

‘Me thinks Euorpe is waking up.’
No, you are only now being made aware that it is also discussed in Europe [and everywhere else]. And has been since its inception.

asked: ‘Here’s a question. What’s the difference between a targeted drone strike and un-targeted IED?’
I’ll bite: None, both often have civilian casualties.

What we should have done once the Taliban & Al-Qaeda were dislodged from power: leave a small, discreet force to train the Afghan army & use counter-terrorist options, which should include non-violent means to drain terrorist groups of support, as well as inducements for terrorists to pursue their objectives through politics rather than violence.
