   At least carl rove got defeated and his megarich clients lost their bid to buy the USA. Of course the megarich will have their accountants find a way to claim a tax deduction for the multimillions that they lost. They won’t give up. They’ll be back with a vengeance in 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020 etc like they did this year and back in 2010.

   question from a canadian. IF and I am saying IF, the electoral college picks the president, then why spend all the time and money asking the people for their vote. In canada the people vote (not enough by the way) and the guy or gal with the most votes gets the job. For Better or worse. I mean not enough people get out and vote. you only get one vote, even if you vote for the loser. which most politicians are. politics. two words, poli meaning many tics meaning blood sucking animals. go figure

   Your system is much too simple, one man one vote is much more effective when you toss in the electoral college and gerrymandered congressional districts.
   Actually it makes as much sense to me as the way we deliver healthcare.

    Good question. My take is that they do it on the honor system—i.e. they give their votes to the candidates who get the largest popular vote in their state (with exceptions!)—and that to violate that honor would mean the potential end of an institution (for better or worse).
    .
    States mull ways to manipulate the system, but usually the efforts are beaten back. (e.g. Pennsylvania is dickering around with the system now to make it more GOP friendly to offset the influence of Philly and Pittsburgh voters).

    Voting in the popular vote is in fact voting for electors in each state (1 per member of congress in that state). They then meet in each state,vote and forward their results to the congress.

    Look at the flag in the background in 2012, must be that taxes are too low for this country to replace its flag and fly a pristine example in demonstration of PRIDE in this country. And yes taxes are at historic lows regardless of what lies your party feeds you. You could take that flag as an example of America’s infrastructure, or our educational system or the abuses of our Constitution by the Supreme Circus, the legislative branch and the executive branch (all the way back to absolute rule by the reDUMBlcians under king geroge and sadly perpetuated by President Obama). But as long as a certain segment of America demands they not pay taxes unless it solely benefits the areas of government they approve of (the military and NOT the troops), we will never return to the former glory of the greatest country on earth.
