Maybe….just maybe, this slap up the side of the head that both sides just received is enough that they will go in for deprogramming from the dogma to which they currently adhere.

I prefer tot think of it as Obama playing The Roadrunner to Congress’ Wile E. Coyote

He’s now a second term President so maybe they can actually work towards the common good. (Wishful thinking)

The saw is mis-labelled “Congress”. Should be “Congressional Republicans”! The infernal Tea Party is still out there…

Lets see if he can actually realize that half of the country thinks his policies are way too left and that he needs to move to the center to reach a compromise. His Uncle Bill C did.

Very positive thinking. He should move over, and the other side remains rigidly locked in their position. Way to go. It’s called compromise.

ruff make a good point CG; If Obama needs to move to the center, doesn’t that mean that the right also needs to move to the center?

Some Teapulicans lost but not enough.

Yes both sides need to compromise. SOME ultra-rich could pay more. Of course this would not solve the deficit or increase employment. Increasing taxes on everybody that makes over 250k a year will hurt small business owners even more than they are already hurting. Will they just sell their house and live in an apartment? Not likely. They instead will layoff more workers. The key is to increase the number of people actually paying taxes. People who are on unemployment,welfare or just stopped looking for work obviously don’t pay in and if no companies are hiring then they will continue not to. I’m hoping that both sides truly set aside their differences and do what’s best for the country. Maybe a non-partisan commission of economists? Sadly, I think I’m just dreaming.

While truly few small business owners make anywhere near that kind of money, a possible compromise from the Democrats in Congress might be to raise the limit to something like $1 million per singles and $1.2 million for families.
Then no reasonable person could say that anybody making that kind of money was a small business owner at all. Of course, ARE the Tea Party types really reasonable people at all???
Besides which, if a 3 to 4% raise in the taxes of people making this kind of money is going to break them, then we are ALL in very serious trouble, regardless of whatever our political persuasion is!!

@Mr. King
I’m talking about people wh actually HIRE people, not a small business that has Mom, Dad and their 2 kids as employees. I’d actually rather that my employer is successful enough to be earning at least 250k a year so he can keep paying his employees. Maybe we need to rethink what we mean by “smal busines”. Is a company that employs 20 people a small business? I hear this 97% number of small businesses won’t be effective by the tax hikes O wants, but how many of those actually employ more than their family and a low-wage secretary/bookkeeper? Btw 250k in a large city is not exactly “rich”. Higher taxes just encourage stagnation, not growth.

Amen. Of course, the trick is to get some sort of consensus on what is best for the country. Any suggestions?

Having the rich pay their fair share would have lowered the debt considerably if they had been paying 70% all theses years.

Only small startups hire people regularly.
