I’m having a hard time understanding this cartoon. Is that a red (or Cuban communist) beret, and if so, why the candle? Does the beret belong to Chavez, and the candle is for hope or remembrance, and Venezuela is in the mourning darkness or looking for a way out or…?

@Zuhlamon
Chavez is known to wear a red beret as part of his image; the star not so much but I guess it might be a nod to Che.
Does the Spanish language have an equivalent idiom for the English “his candle is about to be snuffed” ?
But I’d guess it’s a candle lit for Chavez [because of his ill health due to cancer]….?
This means McDonald is showing ol’ Chavez some respect? Hmm.
I think he’s just a blow-hard but meh.
