Astonishing that many Venezuelans fear that their vote will be known and that if Chavez wins, they lose their jobs, careers, any benefits. Even more astonishing is that they’re right; it’s happened before when many signed a petition.

Chavez is strange for a dictator, he follows the laws and doesn’t arrest his opponents who would arrest him should they take over.

Erm. True, he isn’t a dictator but he pretty much acts like one, so fair-play to Oldlego for calling him out.
Chavez follows laws? Sure, his laws. Doesn’t arrest opponents? I beg to differ. He also muzzles them. His take over of the national media is almost complete.
What little moral high-ground he may have had in the beginning of his election (the 1st one), he lost ages ago. That US stunt to try knock him off his perch back then helped him tremendously. It isn’t news that US interference in other countries’ elections usually backfires.
Speaking of stunts, I still find his at the U.N. in 2006 funny (""It smells of sulfur here") but the dude is delusional and fancies himself a Castro of Venezuela.
He’s come pretty close: his rule of fear over his opponents and personality cult amongst the rural folks is similar to Castro’s.
The left would do well to disown this bloke.

Think of Chavez as Julius Ceaser and you got a better picture.
His people love him, but are worried that he may be going over the edge and he could drag Venezuala with him.

The Main Difference is Communism hates Socialism.
Other than that they are very few differences

People vote for a government they want, it’s a dictatorship.
    Corporations (with u.s. backing) make a coup (Venezuala, 2002), it’s a democracy.
