The Columbian cartoonist obviously believes that this is just another screwing of the Columbian worker in favor of (US) corporate profits.

This just augments Plan Columbia as it becomes the island for US forces to project throughout the rest of the continent.

Hey Canucklehead. In 2008, which presidential candidate took more money from big business than any other presidential candidate in the history of the United States?

first of all, it’s colOmbia, not colUmbia, and the free trade agreement may not be too harmful, if they would take advantage of it. after all, it applies both ways, and their the ones that have things to gain.

Free trade only works when both sides are equal. Unfortunately, in this country we are way over regulated. What we need are more foreign libs to help screw up everyone else so we can then have equality.

So, when the global “free trade” was skewed in your favour, it was ok; now that free trade is going China’s way, suddenly it’s “Free trade only works when both sides are equal”.

I never said the free trade agreements were a good idea…I said that the concept of free trade only works when all else is equal. You mention a good point that I should have mentioned – without early protectionism, some of the poorer economies can’t easily compete with a richer one, which is why free trade agreements are full of loopholes that eventually become nooses for the bigger economies. what should go into those agreements is a pact that each country must strive for equality in their list of regulations. No one would ever sign a trade agreement with us again!

But I will add, in theory, I do agree with free trade because I know capitalism works.
