Impossible...
divided we stand
How can we all agree on who goes to Oslo and how we divvy up the prize money in just two months?
Now if it had been the let's have a blazing row something 6 months later"
Much like the one in the link…I hope. They could be closed so that even when down, they let in some light or none. Very good for blocking wind, hail, and insulating the home. Joked with my daughter about how shutters like that could stop a bullet.
Later, in a nearby(WONDERFUL) Tavern (Wildeshwine and Beer was AWESOME) I mentioned that conversation with one of the locals and he grinned.“you should see the ones closer to the old borders with East Germany, some of them are made of steel.”Then I realized, these shutters were meant to help limit the damage of bullets and shrapnel a war with the Soviet Union would have produced.
Another man with whom I still exchange Cmas cards showed me the basement of his home (built in 1754 i think) where his parent’s and their neighbors would hide during bombing raids and firefights outside. So many decades of Peace in central, if not eastern, europe is something to applaud.
I don’t know if the EU really deserves a Peace Prize.. Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar, or even Malala of Pakistan would get my vote. However, we ALL deserve Peace.Respectfully,C.
My trip to Germany was great. But 90% of the houses had these odd shutters
