America only withdraws support from its puppets when a) they no longer support unlimited American access to their nation’s resources; or b) America figures out it’s hopeless to support them.
(NB Kissinger said to get rid of the Shah because the Shah failed a), and the Ayatollah was only interested in killing secular Iranis, and would let the US have all the oil, which was clearly correct, and is why Kissinger deserved his chaired professorship at Harvard.)
