The way to end the debt is to have jobs, good paying jobs like the hundreds of thousands that have been lost. That and end our global external Empire as well and stop the wars. Also taxation of the rich and their corporations needs to be done as well.

Talk to the rich and convince them to bring the jobs back, forgo their obscene compensation packages and reduce their enormous profits. Good luck with that.

Isn’t it interesting that the government has been building that for the last half century?

Saw a nice summary (don’t have the link to post, and don’t post ’em anyway) that our national debt, the vast majority, some $11+ trillion, is owed to OURSELVES! Only about $5 T is owed to “foreign interests”, and only about $1 Trillion to that dreaded “threat”, China.
The rise in the debt has been a “concern” to some, but certainly not “conservative Republicans”, who racked up the greatest percentage of it with wars and tax breaks, just since Reagan took office.
Yes, Medicare and Social Security do need minor adjustments, like eliminating fraud and abuse by corporations under current Medicare mandates, like not negotiating drug prices (thanks, Republicans for that!), and raising slightly SS taxes to balance the change in actuarial tables over the years, but the changes don’t need to be as drastic as our need to REDUCE “defense” spending to rational levels. We do NOT NEED to spend as much as the next 13 largest military nations COMBINED, to defend OUR shores. Oh, right, invading countries in the third world, to protect our access to oil, is “rational”.
