As for that school thing - to the best of my knowledge, US presidents are always supposed to be “inspirational figures”. Not all live up to that expectation, of course. Didn’t Reagan, Bush Sr, Clinton and Bush Jr speak in front of schools before? I am sure teachers asked similar questions later then.
American presidents have ALWAYS been held up as role models to school kids and as worthy of the respect and honour of their countrymen, or at least as long as I’ve been alive. What makes Obama so different?
