“Let Africa Sink.” An insightful essay on why all aid to Africa should cease yesterday.

Your article is ten years old. Even if it were true (and it sounds too good to be true), I still see Life as Sacred and try to work with the chieftains and persuade them to do good things for their People and not against them.
.
Maybe that article was true then, but what about now?

Ketira, that “article” is an opinion piece and it isn’t just out of date, it’s biased, bigoted bile; it was written by a pissed off white Afrikaner South African, Kim du Toit.
I’m a South African and I’ve met many pissed off Saffies since its 1st free elections in 1994. That South African not only has a chip on her shoulder the size of the Kimberly hole (pun intended), she’s quite clearly racist. Please ignore rightisright, s/he is just a troll. To even answer its posts is to demean yourself. To have even considered that hate piece deserved any merit shows how little you know of the continent.
This is about AIDS, not Africa. The cartoonist is not African. Gocomics ignorance has struck again.
This is about refocusing the minds of everyone that AIDS hasn’t gone away; new campaigns are needed to teach the newer generation about AIDS.

US foreign aid is NEVER wasted on foreigners. It all goes to Friends of the administration. E.g., the US says it gave Egypt $1.3 BILLION a year. It gave the Egyptian Army vouchers which could only be spent to buy stuff an American company couldn’t sell anywhere else. That $1.3 billion all went to the executives of that company, not to the Egyptians (but they got matériel the Army could use to maintain control over the Egyptian people). Other nations were not so lucky, getting stuff that doesn’t work at all. But the Americans who paid the requisite baksheesh to the administration did VERY well (it matters which administration, because they all have different Friends; however, if you’re not a Friend of either Party, then it doesn’t really matter to you which administration gets elected).

As stated, it is an essay and the observations of one man who grew up there.
I’m against throwing good money after bad. Africa can only save itself. Based on history, that isn’t going to happen anytime soon, if at all.
omQ knows little to nothing about this essay, as MISTER Kim du Toit has been an American citizen since 1989. I would trust du Toit’s firsthand accounts before any of these bleeding hearts’.

Sadly HIV is rampant in Africa and nothing can be done now. If Americans were being infected how much help would we get from other countries?
Night-Gaunt49 said, 10 months ago
It was too many Christians who messed up HIV prevention and in the USA for with holding funds to abstinence only which is a big failure every time. The president of S. Africa was a staunch conservative and impeded many programs that were found to work to lower the infection rates.

sigh Here’s how I demean myself by replying to a troll…
Kim and Connie du Toit are bigots. They may be former South Africans, but they remain racist. They do my Afrikaner family a great disservice. They disparage the whole of the African continent, not just South Africa, with racist bile while claiming to be authorities on the whole continent (and treat it as a country) because they’re born in SA; like the du Toits, I was born and grew up in South Africa, except I support South Africa and Africa. My criticism of certain policies in South Africa and elsewhere on the continent is constructive whereas the du Toits simply bash the entire continent with their jaded viewpoint of a former privileged elite who lost their power.
This cartoon is not about Africa, it is about AIDS. A GLOBAL problem.
@ Night-Gaunt: You mean Mbeki, fomer SAfrican president. Yup, he tragically delayed critical assistance during his tenure. Not sure how you’d classify “stanch conservative” when applying it to him…? Why does everything have to viewed through a left/right prism?
At any rate, his successor, Zuma, is not much better: he infamously had a shower after having unprotected sex (she claimed rape) with someone he knew was HIV positive.

The conclusion of your silly article: “Africa has to heal itself. The West can’t help it. Nor should we.”
The USA gives aid to Africa. The Chinese invest, build businesses, create jobs, try to raise the standard of living, and create new trading partners in Africa. (As in “giving a man a fish or teaching a man to fish.” )
Guess who Africa will align itself with.
churchillwasright said, 10 months ago
^ Funny, when the USA does the same exact thing, Lefties like you call it “exploiting”, not investing.

You’ve clearly never met someone who doesn’t think you’re special. Carry a camera with you when you go so that we can find the remains.

Heard an annoucement this morning on the radio, they’re testing a new cure against overactive bladder…
Kind of sucks when you think that we have pills here to make kids sit still for grown ups convenience, to make old men get it up and slim down junk food fans, but we can’t find a cure for a real disease people die from.
