“Arab Spring” was a beginning, but like everything in the Middle East, Religion got in the way of progress.

Indeed, and since you have first-hand experience of religion tripping up your country’s progress, you’re well placed to make that observation. Quite astute but I disagree slightly with your restricting the observation to a small geographical area; I’d enlarge it a tad, say to the size of everywhere.
