Why does a Palestinian man carrying a gun with Al-Qaeda written over it ? Who are those (somalis !!) ? I dont understand the meaning..

  2. dtroutma

    dtroutma said, 4 months ago

Al Qaeda is a group of individuals, kinda’ like the Lions Clubs, with a different purpose, spread across the world. They pick up who they can convince to “join”. Nationalism is NOT part of Al Qaeda.

    dtroutma,
I don’t think nationalism was the point of this toon. Al Qaeda’s increasing activity in Somalia is considered to add to the destabilization. Which results in more deaths thus the Somalis in the gun belt. Hard to have nationalism in a failed state. The recognized government has little to no authority.

Yonalevi : Are you suggesting Gado made some sort of faux pax with the head-dress worn by the gunman?

  6. oldlegodad

    oldlegodadGenius_badge said, 4 months ago

Faux pax head dress? A rag head is a raghead all the world over.

“A rag head is a raghead all the world over”

    ….

That had the same effect on me as someone screeching their nails across a blackboard.

Fighting prejudice is quite frustrating and almost impossible for me to even… :-|

Oldlegodad, I’m new to these forums and you might have different ideas to me regarding most things, but could we leave prejudice out of it?
    EDIT:
Or was this intentional bait to get a rise out of some? I’m new afterall…

  8. fennec

    fennec said, 4 months ago

Yeah, it was a bait. Oldie does that often because he knows he can usually get some “libocrat” to jump up and down. Actually, he seems very concerned and much more even-handed on Middle East questions than you would expect from his lib-baiting.

  9. parkersinthehouse

    parkersinthehouse said, 4 months ago

no he’s not, fennec. lib-baiting is tantamount to intolerance. bait? why do you want to do that old? a racist statement is nothing less. polish jokes, magic negro jokes, blonde jokes. i’m pretty surprised anyone could still be that backward. and don’t back off omQR - newby or not, if venom squirts one way it’s ok to have an opinion back at him - a strong one. yeah, it’s a free forum and first amendment etc., and we read and write here by choice, but let’s not pretend an arse isn’t an arse, and let’s not defend the benighted namecallers.

Bait or no bait, the effect was as I described.
Oldlegodad, it’s quite difficult to describe just how offensive an apparently offhand taunt, even if not intended with malice but to goad a reply, can be. But I guess you know this well enough, hence your taunt. It was just too offhand so I suspected madness in your method.

No worries Parker, thanks. ;-) If you watch Sasha Baron Cohen movies, including the latest “Brüno”, I think you’ll see a lot of similar baiting. Sometimes, sometimes only then, using such extreme provocation, can one be able to hold up the prejudice that it attracts in order to expose it.

    A controversial methodology for sure.

Wow! I was just testing the software, raghead got bleeped the first time I used it months ago.

satipera: lego has firmly established himself as the clown of these pages, incapable of rational discourse, simply seeking a cheap thrill by irritating people. Ignore him.

Magic negro jokes? What? Let’s lighten up a bit folks. I see little wrong with humor that makes fun of each other or plays up stereotypes. If we can’t laugh at ourselves then who can we laugh at?

(ohoh, I often have a beard)

Anyhow, I was intrigued by Yonalevi’s observation and concluded that he was refering to the headdress (in another post he remarked that the person depicted was Pakistani and not Palestinian which I surmised was because of the traditional attire depicted in the cartoon). Since he’s being rather picky on the clothing, I thought I’d try research it:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keffiyeh

    Interesting.

    Back to the cartoon…

I thought neither the Americans nor al-Qa’ida are loved in Somalia so why are the Al Shabab on the verge of taking over?

Sat’, you and I are in complete agreement as to who Lego is and what he stands for, and it’s revolting. I am neither defending him nor laughing at him.

What we disagree on is what to do about him. As he is just out to bug people, confronting him just encourages him to be more obscene. Ignore him and perhaps he’ll lose interest and go away.

Well, look at it this way: there is absolutely no point in carrying on a conversation with someone who is incapable of learning.

(I don’t understand the first sentence in your earlier post; spelling/omissions?)

Oldlegodad: Just watched the video on youtube and a Dutch response to it.
As I’m about to head off to the beach with my family I will limit my response:

The video states there 31 countries in the European Union. There are only 27h at present. That was my 1st warning bell (well, not really, the gross exagerations had started from word go) that bs was coming along.
The dramatic (American) voice and tone just made me roll my eyes.
There is jus S-O M-U-C-H wrong with this scaremongering video…

    Argh!

At any rate, a Dutchman’s response (in English):

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pnpJU31HM0&feature=related

I can read Dutch if anyone would like to read his sources.

Anyhow, without further ado, I’m off to the beach, cheers!
