Only Spock could get away with that one in Star Trek. No one would believe Kirk or one of the other cast if they tried it.

@Nabuquduriuzhur
They’d believe Spock because it would actually be there if he said it.

Wait … supposedly Vulcans can’t lie .. but Spock lied in that episode!
(Either that, or there was a very small tick and Spock could see it…)
Or they just hadn’t come up with the ‘Vulcans can’t lie’ concept that early in the series.

Spock was only half Vulcan. Vulcan’s cannot lie. But we all known humans can.

It was the logical thing to do.

Vulcans can lie, they just normally refuse to do so, as it invalidates the entire point of language—to communicate ideas. Spock, being intelligent and self-willed, chose to use misdirection, obfuscation and, occasionally, an out-and-out lie when tactically useful. He did so in many circumstances over the years; a point was even made of it in Wrath of Khan.
BTW, Bruno, nice choice of quote!

Once, in a class room, an insect was flying around, looked like a wasp on steroids. He finally landed, and when things settled down, I took out my handkerchief, and let a corner of it slide up the neck of the man ahead of me.
He was suddenly two rows further ahead!

Yes, but might possibly be because he was creeped out by the guy rubbing a handkerchief on his neck. :D
