Jules Feiffer has described Tony Auth best, "His perspective is that of a bemused and often angry comic historian. Irony, never a favorite form with Americans, is his meat and potatoes. He is not smug, and though he can be mean, he is never mean-spirited. Auth is a moralist and an optimist. He insists, even in this day and age, that hope is more than the name of a right-wing comedian or the shtick of a reactionary president."

Everything you’ve been doing just lowers your poll ratings.
Keep up the good work!

Specifically, what ‘ways’ are Republicans going to change?
-
Are they going to stop trying to make abortion illegal?
-
Are they going to stop trying to repeal Obamacare?
-
Are they going to stop voter suppression?
-
Are they going to vote for presidential appointees on their merits, rather than filibustering?
-
Are they going to acknowledge that Bush was a terrible president and that he, and his administration, led/lied us into a war for reasons that are still unknown, that also resulted in failure in Afghanistan?
-
Are they going to acknowledge that when Republicans were in power, they deliberately destroyed the budget surplus, skewed the tax code to favor high incomes, and spent with no restraint — earmarks as far as the eye could see — and belied their claim to be fiscally responsible?

No matter the party in power – the class warfare, the bloated an’ broken entitlement system, the ineffective immigration policies, and the (soon to be) $20 TRILLION national debt are tearing America apart.
And the Legislative, Judicial an’ Executive ranches don’t give a tinker’s damn – neither collectively nor individually – so long as they hold onto their own little centers of power…there’s not an honest man nor woman amongst all the government people inside the DC beltway…If North Korea is looking for a target for that nuclear missile they keep threatening to shoot at North America … … …

You pretty well summed it up Joe. The unfortunate part of the whole thing is people are ignoring the consequences of their inaction and furthering the partisan divide. The politicians keep saying we don’t have a debt crises and we can kick the can down the road for years. I am putting together a “summary of consequences” on maintaining this debt from an accountants view. That’s as objective as I can get. So many obvious issues seem to be just deftly passed over for lack of conviction to implement change. I guess if I was being optimistic I would say “maybe things will be better after the 2014 elections.” I doubt it.

Before all of you liberal folks start celebrating the death of the republican party, look back in history at the period between Jimmy Carter and Clinton. Your party was in disarray and the conservatives carried the white house. Odds are the republicans will do the same as the democrats did: cut to the chase of politics and figure out what it takes to win again. After all, they are well financed…

^yes, when you’re on the top there is really only one way to go from there. However, historically, politically parties turn into something else. In this past election the ‘real’ power switches weren’t thrown. and it’s kinda frightening.

Oh, hell; they aren’t actually going to CHANGE anything. To do so would be to lose the Far Right wing. So they have to figure out ways to LOOK like they’re changing without actually changing.
Look for changes in the MESSAGE instead.

Well, I don’t celebrate it, I mourn it. I think that the country needs conservative principles, including many of the positions Republicans claim they support. Except they don’t support them.
-
Friend of the working man? No, friend of the Kochs.
-
Fiscal conservatives? Yeah, when they were in power, they really reduced the deficit.
-
Individual liberties? Like the Patriot Act?
-
Against illegal immigration? Oh yeah, they’re going to enforce laws against hiring illegals. Sure.

I nominate you to win the best posts of the day. Rational, if not uncomfortable to acknowledge some of your points. Civil, based in reality, and not vile or filled with hatred, just simple straightforward questions. Not trolling, just inviting civil respectful dialog. Thank you for pointing out concrete reality.
