Jules Feiffer has described Tony Auth best, "His perspective is that of a bemused and often angry comic historian. Irony, never a favorite form with Americans, is his meat and potatoes. He is not smug, and though he can be mean, he is never mean-spirited. Auth is a moralist and an optimist. He insists, even in this day and age, that hope is more than the name of a right-wing comedian or the shtick of a reactionary president."

They’re good but, we’re better. Which is why we keep catching them in the act.

America seems complacent lately, foolish but there it is.
.
This should be motivation to get the chains off free enterprise and start kicking butt economically again, I hope.
.
Gridlock is leading to US being number 2, and that stinks.

The few of us who survived remember how, at precisely midnight on 31 Dec 1999, every electric power plant stopped, every car stopped, every airplane fell from the sky. Dams stopped working, and the flooding was terrible. It was horrible, and few made it through the terrible early morning hours of 1 Jan 2000.
Those Chinese hackers can replicate every single catastrophe that happened at midnight on 31 Dec 1999, and plunge the US back into the horrible cataclysm that was 1 Jan 2000. So be afraid, be very afraid, because the Chinese know how to cause all the tragedies that were Y2K to happen again!

If several large transformers are knocked out, there is no way to replace them quickly. They have to be built and there is a three year waiting period at this point. Imagine going without electricity for three years.

This is a scenario of which I’ve ranted since first starting on these forums. It does me no pleasure to have my concerns given confirmation especially at a time when our military is about to take massive hits from sequestration. Politicians cater to lobbyists who want to sell airplanes and tanks and other toys but resist educating our young people t help us face this threat. They want to cut programs while our power grids are at risk and our businesses are being raided for information and personal info. Tax refund checks are being stolen by computer and banks are being robbed electronically. I am grateful Mr. Auth is presenting this cartoon and if anything, it is understating the threat. We are paying for Chinese products and they use the money to steal from us and to protect North Korea.
Perhaps we should simply nationalize the debt we owe to China as part of our response to their aggression and their lack of help against Iran, Syria, and North Korea. They certainly don’t seem intimidated by anything we’ve done so far. Then there’s the tourist babies. The tens of thousands of Chinese infants born in the USA to women who only came here long enough to have children born as US citizens and who have gone home to China where their loyalties will remain and who will benefit from their votes once they hit 18.
With great concern,
C.
