Jules Feiffer has described Tony Auth best, "His perspective is that of a bemused and often angry comic historian. Irony, never a favorite form with Americans, is his meat and potatoes. He is not smug, and though he can be mean, he is never mean-spirited. Auth is a moralist and an optimist. He insists, even in this day and age, that hope is more than the name of a right-wing comedian or the shtick of a reactionary president."

“the state’s halfway houses have mutated into a shadow corrections network, where drugs, gang activity and violence, including sexual assaults, often go unchecked, according to a 10-month investigation by The New York Times.”
Yeah, it’s because he’s to (sic) good…

Privatization is the GOP answer to everything. Drive the competition out of business and then charge more for a crappier product once there is no choice. It’s the same strategy that chain restaurants use.

Social Security was in a Private Account because this is how the Democrat set it up, and then in 1964, a Democrat robbed the Private SS fund to fund their ‘War on Poverty’

It’s the liberal’s ‘catch and release’ program.

So tigger, my sweet tiger friend, what did the republicans do to stop that? Or, did they think it was a grand idea to spend the money that way?

Part of the problem is Drug Prohibition imprisonment of non-violent drug users. The State doesn’t care about costs, it simply will steal more from the people.
If anything these Dukakis-like facilities prove the soft-on-crime approach liberals have always taken is a massive failure.

You whine when people hurt your feelings and pick on you, yet half your posts are only hateful insults of those on the right or anyone that disagrees with you. Go ahead and attack now.

Democrats won’t let Republicans do anything to stop it, or even alter the program in any way to make it sustainable.

Wasn’t there that one judge who took bribes from a private prison and then sentenced innocent youngsters to do time there so that the state would pay the prison? Either get rid of private law enforcement altogether or add “Thug Nation” to your country’s name…
