I know most of you are skeptical when it comes to the bible. You call it a book of fairy tales and are more open to other religious books. However, can anyone see how accurate these accounts could be when viewed through a lens of current events in the mid-east? Eze 38: 3And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:
4And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: 18And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, that my fury shall come up in my face.
19For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel; 21And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord GOD: every man’s sword shall be against his brother.
22And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.
23Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the LORD.
Rev 16:16 16And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.
    And from Wiki:
Megiddo (Hebrew: מגידו‎) is a Hebrew place name that can refer to:
Tel Megiddo, site of an ancient city in northern Israel’s Jezreel valley Battle of Megiddo (15th century BC) Battle of Megiddo (609 BC) Battle of Megiddo (1918) Megiddo Airport, a domestic airport in Israel Megiddo, Israel, a kibbutz in Israel Megiddo Junction, a motorway junction in northern Israel Armageddon (Har Megiddo)

I thought Megiddo was a large valley in Israel saw something on it, on the history channel. Was good cavelry country back in the day and now is good tank country. May have a airport in the valley I don’t know.

Bruce: “can anyone see how accurate these accounts could be” I’m sorry – if your quotation makes any sense at all, I want some of what you’re smoking.

    It’s like this:

I’ve been hearing this same end times shtick over and over since I was a kid…but with different players. In the 1970’s it was China and Russia…now it’s Muslims.

The one thing that doesn’t change is the unshakeable belief that this is going to happen in our lifetime.

And by the way…what, exactly, does that have to do with this cartoon anyway?

Simon_Jester is right; back on the comic Al-Qaeda and Pakistan deserve each other. Also Pakistan is in bed with China it is where they buy half their airplanes at some point China will stick them.

Let’s see: @running on empty: you probably can’t afford what I smoke but come on down and sit around the fire some night and I’ll turn you on to some. (just kidding FBI/NSA/CIA? et al)
@Jack: yep. It is a place of great historical importance as it sits on old mid-east trade routs.
@Doc: Now see how your literal mind works? Back in the day the swords were the “cutting edge” of war tech so….Hey try to think “cutting edge” when the war starts. I know you can. You who help us “know what we know and how we know it” should be able to extrapolate and guess what kinds of weapons would be brought to the party.
@Simon_Jester: Well, If you bothered to research the issue you would see that ALL of the nations surrounding Israel will be called. Are you so blind you can not see that the entire region is aligning against Israel AND making allies with nuclear powers in the area? No keep your eyes shut while our President withdraws support for Israel and gives carte blanche to the Arab nations.
@at all: hey don’t blame me for pointing to the truth of current events and the possibility of world wide repercussions.

We have been dishing up support to Israel for 63 years, and it still pours in in the billions every year, no matter how many times we are insulted and snubbed, and our sincere advice intended for Israel’s own good is ignored.

Of course, Israel has a perfect right to ignore our advice, and sneer at us as much as they like. It is their country, after all! And I have yet to hear anyone so much as hint at having the US withdraw its support. Unless by “withdrawing support” you mean failure to repeat “you always know best,” whenever Israel does, says, or thinks anything.

Right now Obama is being blasted from the right precisely because he has not given “carte blanche” to Libya, and didn’t give “carte blanche” to Egypt to put down the democracy movement there. He is blasted from the left for not withdrawing instantly and completely from Iraq, which would certainly be giving Iraq “carte blanche” to Iraq. So what Arab nations are getting this “carte blanche” and what would your prefer?

He is asking that Israel actually co-operate with the US in return the for the billions. Apparently asking for anything in return for propping them up is what you mean by “withdrawing support”. “Carte Blanche” and a blank check are okay with you, as long as they are give to the right foreign country.
Israel has a right to do whatever they please. I’d just rather they not to it with our money.

“Al Qaeda” was out of Afghanistan four days after “W” said bomb there, because he couldn’t bomb Saudi Arabia, and his plan to bomb Iraq was put on hold. Considering all of actual “Al Qaeda” (world-wide) could be seated in the high school auditorium of a medium sized U.S. city, our “military effort” might be a tad overblown?

Putting “hazard” in perspective might also be looking at the damage McVeigh and Nichols did, supposedly acting alone.

As to the mythology of the bible proving “accurate”, if you predict enough idiocy, and have idiots interpret your words any way they want, AFTER the original language of the “predictions” have been long altered in translations as “accurate” as asking a dachshund to translate Nostradamus, some things are bound to look “accurate”. Therein lies the problem with ALL “bible fundamentalists” be they Jew, Christian, or Muslim.

@Doughfoot: I agree with the money thing.
@Doc: got to fire up my woodburner and think about that before I can explain it in a way your highly educated mind can comprehend. (not kidding)

@Doc: Ok, since you have such a literal view of things, you think (yeah you do) that everyone else does as well (or should) and so my comment MUST mean that I believe the prophets knew exactly what was to come. Revelation was given to John in “visions and signs” which he then transcribed to the best of his ability using references he knew and recognized. It was also necessary that he write in terms that his audience would understand (like I’m doing now, I hope). Literal? Not really. Metaphorical? Not in the sense that Jesus used when saying stuff like the Kingdom of God is like a Pearl of great value. It’s a prophecy. This is what will come to be. War, all these nations that surround you will be coming to do you in. BUT, God will step in and save the day. Fairy tale? Well, there is history to consider and doesn’t history tend to repeat itself? So, what I was saying is, open your eyes and look at what is happening now. Isn’t it strange how the current landscape resembles the prophets words? As a thinking person you must have a place in your mind for the “what if” of life and be open to possibilities. Doc, if you limit yourself to only what you can see touch taste hear and not what you can imagine then you are a stagnant pool ( a metaphor fer sure) and doomed to be left behind by the rest of humanity. We need thinkers and we need teachers but we need dreamers as well.
