Jules Feiffer has described Tony Auth best, "His perspective is that of a bemused and often angry comic historian. Irony, never a favorite form with Americans, is his meat and potatoes. He is not smug, and though he can be mean, he is never mean-spirited. Auth is a moralist and an optimist. He insists, even in this day and age, that hope is more than the name of a right-wing comedian or the shtick of a reactionary president."

Patterson covered up an aides marital abuse or something like that.
In an explosive development that puts Gov. Paterson at the center of an alleged cover-up, the governor instructed two female state workers to contact the woman involved in a domestic-violence case against his closest aide – even enlisting one of them to ask the victim to downplay it, sources told The Post last night.

Go ask the Bush family about the Nazis. They helped finance the Nazi’s rise to power.
As for the comic, domestic violence is NEVER funny. Auth is in poor taste today.

it ain’t supposed to be funny - it’s supposed to point out a less-than-wonderful fact.
Anyone who thinks that all editorial cartoons are supposed to be funny probably thinks all animated films and comic books are for kids.

I guess this wasn’t meant to be funny, but to denounce an unfair act.
Denounce bad stuff is also a cartoonist’s duty. Heck, it is part of any person’s duty.

But to claim this is indicative of any political party is asinine. Both have had their fair share of scandals and cads.

Governor of NY? Didn’t this clown just replace some other clown who got himself into some sort of mess?
Sigh…

This hurt me to see. I didn’t have the background to understand (Patterson who? and the story that goes with it). It sounds like it serves a purpose but I wonder if it would re-inforce abusive behaviour.

Reminds me of Sarah Palin using her office to go after that Alaskan cop up in Alaska. Except the cop looked more than able to defend himself, physically. Didn’t she manage, though, to get him fired? It had to do with his having perhaps slapped around her sister?
Lovely home life up there. Drugs, violence, family values.

This ain’t a partisan issue, son. Take that nonsense elsewhere.

I don’t think you will see a lot of liberals defending either personal abuse within the family or abuse of power in the public sphere. I don’t know what Patterson did, at this point we’re just hearing stories, but if it turns out he abused his power, he should suffer the consequences.
This is a strong cartoon – well designed and drawn.

Regardless of party, or lack thereof, abuse of this sort and trying to covering it up cannot be tolerated. (the same for supporting the Nazis, although GWB must have been quite young at the time, and no responsible for his actions.

Dear johnmcfarm:
when you make comments like this – “Typical democrat behavior, they are beasts after all. Just like the nazi’s” – you only make yourself look foolish. If you have something intelligent to say, I’m sure that we all would be happy to listen. You can’t seriously believe what you say, so why say it?
