Actually I am happy this is over, they have elected President, the country is “united”, Democracy has worked, lets go home, and let them fight out the details among themselves.

  2. toasteroven

    toasteroven said, 18 days ago

Come on, Ken. He only won after his primary opponent withdrew, and that was because he felt the election could never be fair. People are only accepting the results because they want to avoid the violence and death that seem to inevitably follow elections. Even if Karzai won the majority of votes, it’s hardly a victory for democracy.

I guess I should have put quotation marks ” ” around Democracy.

There is no Democracy there, there is no Victory there, there is no THERE, it is not a nation, or even a country, it is a collection of war-lords, Karzai was put into power by Cheney/Bush, who also started this war.

There is no need for us to be there, let’s get out while we can. Staying there will only draw resources and lives from the real terrorist - who are in oil rich nations in the gulf not Afghanistan.

Hmm… while I think I disagree with you on the no nation thing, I suppose I did misunderstand what you said about democracy.

But how do you propose to deal with deal with those oil rich nations like Saudi Arabia, when we need them so much? Yeah, they support terrorists, but we’re pretty connected to those in Saudi Arabia, whether we like it or not*. Do you think it will be easy to sever those ties?

*Fun fact! When I was in college, I lived in a house with a couple of guys from Saudi Arabia. They were immensely rich, but they still lived in the US because, A: An American education is worth quite a lot, and B: American citizenship is worth even more. Someone with dual Saudi-American citizenship can get away with quite a lot in their home country. Find a way to deal with that, if you please.

BozOTUS must now concoct another excuse to reverse himself from the “right war”, one the US must win rhetoric. BozOTUS is famous for shooting from the hip in order to gain a momentary political advantage without regard for the reality of the policy he is advocating.

I’ve come to the conclusion that ANandy is really just a computer algorithm linked to a database of catch phrases. Mindless is the only way to describe his/her unthinking, contentless repetition.

Before you start on but Saddam had to be stopped beaue he was killing Iraqis, Guess What, Saddam was kiling Iraqis duirng the 12 years 2 Republian Presidents support Sddam 10% from 1981-1993! Why are you not Blasting RR and HWB for supporting 2 Terrorists for 12 years? Yes, they also Supported Osama! Hey Anandy, why do you support Repubians Supporting Terrorism?

What are the libs picking on ANANDY for? What he said is absolutely correct. Obama ran on rhetoric that Afghanistan was the correct and moral war. No surprise that libs are so willing to forget that FACT in their desire to withdraw.

I spelled this out with a similar analysis on Benson three days ago, and except for OMQ, who said my points were interesting, not one of you mealy mouths had a word of rebuttal, because you know what I said was absolutely true.

So instead of debating what ANANDY (or I) said, we got one person saying “shut up”, two people calling him/her stupid, and another saying to flag. How about I flag for changing the topic from Afghanistan to Iraq?

  11. dtroutma

    dtroutma said, 17 days ago

church, going after Al Qaeda was the right “effort”, not the “war”. I can’t say attacking the whole country (to build a pipeline) was either moral, or correct, but we were already there and walked out without doing the job the first time around. The Taliban is an organization of jerks, but most Afghans, and Pakistanis, and other “moderate” Muslims, don’t buy their line, but we essentially put them in power when the Russians left.

Our “foreign policy” under Cheney/Bush was if we saw a splinter in someone’s toe, we amputated the leg. We also seemed to pay off a lot of malpractice lawyers to handle the consequences.

The moment America pulls out, Karzai and his people will be butchered.

It’s very dangerous to be an enemy of the U.S.

It’s even worse to be a friend.

Who are we to teach democracy to a place where it has not existed for centuries? Has God given us the task of teaching or enforcing democracy to others? In short, lets get out of there and other many countries where we are doing the same and focus in our own problems. Our children, our erderly and our poor are paying dearly for this stupid endeavour. Lets allocate the billions we stupidly spend to reinforce our own safety inside the US. Our country will again be the greatest in the world.

TROUT: Thank you for your reply. You didn’t really tackle the fact that Obama, who is as much an idealogical dove as you, ran as a pro-Afghan war hawk in an effort to sway independents who worried he was weak on defense, but at least you gave it an effort.

    As compared to:

HUMPHRIES, whose debating skills can use some work.

Ken, the flag shows up under each post once you have signed on. The Flag is used for flagrant language or content. Children do see this website and some inappropriate comments dust the posts unfortunately. Trolls drop some real road apples! Clicking on the flag should alert UCLICK to a remark considered beyond the pale.

  26. 4uk4ata

    4uk4ata said, 16 days ago

Well, afaik flagging simply brings a post to the attention of the mods, whoever they are. If they think something is inappropriate, they can remove it.

I flagged two posts once after people started being exceedingly impolite to each other. I think family members were involved.

I didnt really understand that “Yes we can” speech anyway. Im thinking it was only for support. Thats kinda pathetic.

“Yes we can”! Stop paying taxes?
“Yes we can”! Stop giving jobs to foreign countries so that Americans can work?

I find this cartoon a tad self-serving, in that Mr Auth - not for the first time - ignores the painful but obvious fact that Mr Karzai would never have become «president» of Afghanistan, had not the United States government/military placed him in that position. What all this has to do with the ancient Greek concept of «democracy» is beyond my grasp….
