Jules Feiffer has described Tony Auth best, "His perspective is that of a bemused and often angry comic historian. Irony, never a favorite form with Americans, is his meat and potatoes. He is not smug, and though he can be mean, he is never mean-spirited. Auth is a moralist and an optimist. He insists, even in this day and age, that hope is more than the name of a right-wing comedian or the shtick of a reactionary president."

Five liberals give another liberal somebody else’s money. It’s just politics as usual.

Why do the righties like Rush, and his toadies like Nomad, hate peace so much???
It’s obvious that they never went to war.

Love how they draw Rush as still being fat, when in fact he’s been gradually losing weight for years and now looks almost too thin, if anything…
PS Rush lost all respect for the Nobel Prize years ago, when Yassar Arafat won it (not to mention Jimmy Carter).
Rush was nominated for thre Nobel Peace Prize himself, once. Fact! The way he pooh-pooh’d it and made it clear he didn’t have any respect for it as an award pretty much guaranteed he’d lose to someone else (which he did).

Oh, pleeeeease!!
And scott, he probably nominated himself. Anyone can be nominated. It’s who gets selected that matters.

“Rush was nominated for thre Nobel Peace Prize himself, once.” Yes? By whom? Who is allowed to make “nominations”? I hereby nominate scottfreitas (genius) for the Pulitzer Prize for his insightful comment here. And for a MacArthur “Genius” Award. And for the Nobel Prize in Literature. There you go, now you have “nominations”, too, just like Mt. Rushmouth.

Obama winning the peace prize is like awarding the Congressional Medal of Honor to a soldier who is still in boot camp..But..it’s all political, The peace prize was diminished to something out of a cracker jack box when it was awarded to Arafat and Carter..these people are just a bunch of European elites that hate America and what it stands for. They won’t be happy until we have 17% unemployment like most parts of Europe with those who know best in charge.. And free speech is only free if the elites agree with what you are saying.

I don’t get the joke. He imploded? If so, that happened a long time ago. He is the most listened-to powerless person. That’s what happens when you are on the fringe where you can not accomplish anything that involves working with other people.
On the extreme right you only belief in yourself, while on the extreme left you no longer belief in the power of one.

Right. And that’s why the Obama campaign set records in campaign contributions of $25 and less.

^ and when he gives interviews, he states flat-out that it’s all about ratings and money for him, something his far right dittoheads never seem to hear.

The Norwegian elite, not least the politicians in Stortinget (Parliament), which selects the members of Den Norske Nobelkomite know and have known since 1905 which side of their political bread is buttered ; thus their partiality for US government figures, even war criminals like Heinz Alfred Kissinger. So why not award the peace prize to a man who hasn’t withdrawn from Iraq, who hasn’t closed the concentration camp at Guantánamo, and who is considering widening the war in Afghanistan and perhaps even attacking Pakistan in a more determined manner than hitherto ? Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose….

As for the Award, I feel it is a lot premature, but really looking at it, President Obama’s impact started before he took office. It was his call for a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq that caused the previous administration to actually begin a drawdown.

Well, if you with the Red cross, you know what to do with your rising blood pressure as regards the reaction to this years award.

He Rush, since you said yourself that you are now are just like the Taliban, I guess you won’t have any problem going to Cuba (no, not for cigars) at the “still opened” Guantanamo Prison - to stay with one of your “buddies” and allow, oh say, 150 water boardings of yourself!!!
Your buddy Dick loved to give those orders and his GLEE showed right through on your show.
And since you had no problem with others getting that treatment and since you are such a current threat to this country with your loud, unpatriotic rantings, we had better find out what’s on your mind regarding any terrorists plots against America!!!

Don’t forget Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., nobel peace prize winner 1964.
Jase99 said, about 1 month ago
Yes, but King was a community activist for a decade by then.
Obama hasn’t had time to affect nearly the change King did when he won. Obama is just getting started. It’s just too early to even consider him for such an award.

I feel like I’ve walked into a room where liberals where handed clubs and conservatives were handed a number for their place in the clubbing line. What the heck? Why is it ok for liberals to call people names and slander character while wearing their Peace t-shirts, but not ok for conservatives to rip apart bogus policies and out corrupt politicians in their Keep America Free shirts? If I were a conservative, my head would also explode at how blind the left is. If I were a liberal, I’d want to scratch the eyes out of anyone on the right who doesn’t agree with me. Oh… I guess that’s why I’m not a liberal. My mother taught me to play fair and fight for truth, not what feels good to me.
And just for fun, I’d like to know if someone can tell me what President Obama actually DID to earn the Nobel Peace Prize because I’m not seeing it. (Like I didn’t with Al Gore… or Jimmy Carter… or Yassr Arafat) Or is this a prize given for intentions rather than actions? Think I’ll go check that out.
Have a great day, everyone!
vmerr235 said, about 1 month ago
Ok, because Conservatives are just too nice and too good, right?
Wrong.
Everyone thinks that they’re “side” is more correct than the other. And the conservatives want to play fair and fight for truth? Yeah, I’ll believe that when I see it. Conservatives fight for big business and leave the “little man” behind.
And I wonder why you didn’t support Al Gore or Jimmy Carter… probably because they’re liberals? Yeah.
Don’t just spew out BS. Think before you type.

vmerr235, was that for me? (If not, feel free to disregard the rest of this.)
I agree that both sides have their bashers. It’s just really hard to find liberals who don’t take personal offense if someone disagrees with a liberal policy AND I find it amusing that they cry for peace while calling you names.
As far as presidency goes, I didn’t support Al Gore because I watched him behave like a child during debates when no one agreed with his views. I didn’t support Jimmy Carter because I was only in high school.
As for the Nobel Peace Prize, I have watched Al Gore get rich by preaching that a scientifically proven normality for earth is really a scary new thing. The statistics he lauds as proof positive have failed to meet that test.
Jimmy Carter, on the other hand, is one I should have done my homework on better. I found a new resource today that gave me more information that I didn’t have before. His efforts HAVE met the criteria for the prize. Kudos to him.
I take a lot of time to think through what I write. I realize a lot is lost in written communication, such as tone and compassion, but sharing our viewpoints is important enough to try to get past that. Unfortunately, while one person reads “passionate belief” into a post, another may read “angry attack” into the same post.
So, in the spirit of mutual debate with no intention to spew venom (or BS) on anyone, my questions still stand.
1.) Why is it ok for liberals to call people names and slander character while wearing their Peace t-shirts, but not ok for conservatives to rip apart bogus policies and out corrupt politicians in their Keep America Free shirts?
RESTATED: Why is it ok for someone wanting peace to use un-peaceful means to get it? (understanding that not all conservatives play fair either, but they’re not a contradiction in behavior)
AND…
2.) Is the Nobel Peace Prize given for intentions only rather than actions?
I haven’t had time to research that, but if it IS, then next year I plan to submit the name of a woman who INTENDS to help fight homelessness and hunger in our own country.
God bless America!
