Jules Feiffer has described Tony Auth best, "His perspective is that of a bemused and often angry comic historian. Irony, never a favorite form with Americans, is his meat and potatoes. He is not smug, and though he can be mean, he is never mean-spirited. Auth is a moralist and an optimist. He insists, even in this day and age, that hope is more than the name of a right-wing comedian or the shtick of a reactionary president."

If he did that, he shouldn’t be secretary of the treasury. He doesn’t have the legitimcy to be.

Maybe he’ll be more sympathetic to us poor taxpayers trying to make sense of the incomprehensible tax forms. Wouldn’t it be great if his mistake led to a simplification of the tax forms for those of us who speak English and not “Legalese Financial Tax Expert”. From what I understand, even a “tax expert” told him he was paying the proper taxes required.

That is waht the story is. One congressman interviewed said apparently some in the IRS were asked to try and fill out the forms and couldn’t. If the guys responsible for running the system cannot figure out the forms, what hope do the rest of us have?
