Jules Feiffer has described Tony Auth best, "His perspective is that of a bemused and often angry comic historian. Irony, never a favorite form with Americans, is his meat and potatoes. He is not smug, and though he can be mean, he is never mean-spirited. Auth is a moralist and an optimist. He insists, even in this day and age, that hope is more than the name of a right-wing comedian or the shtick of a reactionary president."

Why is “Neo-” used if they’vebeen around for centuries ?
Tukla Ratte said, 11 months ago
Because it sounds better than the more accurate “neo-imperialists”.

They’re “NEO-CONS” because they used to be a bunch of Liberals before they went ultra-conservative…

The neo whatevers would love to turn back the clock to the “good old days” of Dickensian London.

No they weren’t liberals, they use Neo-con because they are billing themselves as the New conservatives. The “Project for a New American Century” was their jumping off point. This is the document, by the way, that says a big terrorist attack would be a good thing because it would give them the environment to invade middle eastern countries to secure their oil under American Control. Sound familiar?

Right on, Tony!

The popular joke around here is that in french, “un con” means “an idiot”. (I’m not making this up! Got an english-french dictionary?)

Fox – PNAC is the group. Rebuilding America’s Defenses was the document. All PNAC members were chickenhawks and all total f*cking idiots.
Corosive Frog said, 11 months ago
PNAC reused the old philosophy of all former powers just before they took a nosedive; “Our success are the proof that we have God in our pocket. It’s our destiny to rule the World and every other nation’s destiny is to shut up and follow us.”
That was the british empire’s thought, the USSR’s, the Nazi’s and we all know how it ended. Somehow, someone managed to be stupid enough to think that even if the Nazis, the Russians and the British had it wrong, America could adopt the same philosophy without facing the same consequences.
The idea that our nation (whatever nation it is) is destined to rule the world is a seductive one but it’s always been wrong and will always be.

foxglove16: gee, somebody ought to tell that to the Christian Science Monitor: http://www.csmonitor.com/specials/neocon/neocon101.html OR, you could just google “neocons”

longtimeCF is right…
http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Neocon http://www.lewrockwell.com/dmccarthy/dmccarthy14.html
“Neoconservative – A “neocon” is more inclined than other conservatives toward vigorous government in the service of the goals of traditional morality and pro-business policies. Tends to favor a very strong foreign policy of America as well.”
It’s a clever out for “Rockefeller” republicans to explain why they really cant seal the deal on bringing conservatism’s main goals to fruition, and also allowed them to sweet talk their moderate and evangelical bases.
