More frightening than Trump are the voters who support his offensive, abrasive behavior and policies that attack the poor, the immigrants, and those whose ancestors were not from Europe. The founders were well aware of the dangers of political parties and theocracies and gave us a framework that would not just tolerate differences of origin and religion, but allow us to thrive by supporting each other’s differences. If there are voters, with no love for the constitution, who wish to turn America into a non-diverse, monolithic, theocracy (in name but not practice) we may be doomed to a long succession of Trump-like “leaders” who cannot unify but only divide more and more factions against each other.
