Do you even begin to think that the Congress which would have to set all that up would ever do so? If you do, then why not also wish for all mankind to live in peace, love, and plenty. Unfortunately, without the intervention of an all loving God, that is not going to happen. And, believe me, I am truly, truly sorry about that!!

As Clark Kent, plus make lobbying for money a serious offense like bribing an official.

I can remember when the top officials of each party gathered every two years (but not much happened except in leap years).

In Presidential election years, there were always a bunch of candidates with regional support and a requirement for a super-majority for nomination, since, if only 51% of the candidate’s own party was going to vote for him, he couldn’t possibly win. So the party bosses haggled in smoke-filled rooms for a week, and sometimes longer, until they found someone that almost all of the party bosses could agree to support.

The convention is now limited to just four days with a foregone conclusion, and most of the venues have a strict no-smoking policy, which makes it hard to gather in smoke-filled rooms.

Bring back those smoke-filled rooms filled with party bosses who decided on who would be the nominee, a process that gave us Washington and Jefferson and Lincoln instead of the current crop of nominees.

I was going to comment, but Clark Kent and The Trusted Mechanic already expressed my view.

That sounds great, but the SCotUS already ruled that money is protected speech. You’d have to amend the Constitution, and that thought scares the #$%^ out of me. God knows what special interests would have their politicians-for-hire write into that amendment.

    Almost, ALMOST a gold post.
    .
Chinese donated quite a chunk of cash to the Democrats, which no doubt helped Clinton’s reelection and the Chinese in turn received technology to upgrade their ballistic missile systems

I am just sorry that the Plutocrats are wining. This is their world where money is speech and their freedom is important. Ours is not.
    -
They really don’t like democracy but it helps to keep the game going. They will never lose because they rule the roost, own both parties and those who count. We don’t except as a threat which they want neutralized.
    -
If we just had a 6 week limit on politicking and anyone running gets the same amount of time in debates and advertisements we would begin to free ourselves from the special interests. At present that could never happen, never.

Citizen’s United was a blatant move by the Plutocrats and their fans, agents, allies etc to show us who is the boss. We still play at democracy. They run it.

A sample amendment: "Corporations are not people, speech is not money, and the source of campaign contributions must be publicly declared prior to any and all elections. "

I might agree with you, but corporations are taxed.
