    Shouldn’t that first car have a woman driver?

    Nice. The bailout of the car companies has been a huge savings over the GOP “let it fail” plan, not just from jobs and exports, but in taxpayer dollars. It is too bad that GOP ignorance on economic matters is so resistant to learning from experience.

    The US lost just over $10 billion on the GM bailout. The government just sold their remaining stock at a loss.

    The percentage of the workforce that is employed right now is the lowest it has been in nearly half a century.

    So, one can easily conclude that the government run by Obama has been particularly bad at job creation and stimulating the economy.

    You might be surprised. Today’s choices: an American car built in Japan, or a Japanese car built in America…..

    I remain firm in my conviction that had the money been given to the average American, pro rata, that was given away for bailouts to those “too big to fail” companies, the economy would be growing astronomically, because the average American would have spent it on goods within the U.S. instead of investing it offshore or paying executives special bonuses for their failure!

    Enoki: the numbers you left off were the $39 billion in additional revenue saving GM produced, so in fact, the taxpayers DID come out $29 BILLION AHEAD on the deal! It might have been wiser to hold the stocks just a little longer, but don’t recall what the term limit was to cash out (believe there was one), then the Republicans screaming get government out of “Government Motors”….

    @Doctor Warbucks

    Many foreign makes are assembled and use parts made right here in the US. So those not made in America cars in your garage just might have been made right here in America!

    singlespeed: Labels now say “North American Content” not U.S. made content, because Dodge, Ford, and some GM vehicle lines are made in part, or in whole, in Canada or Mexico. What got me at a “car show” in a mall was that the first car I came upon with made in USA was a KIA, after checking several “American” cars.

    Just this week I watched Michael Moore’s “Roger and Me” – it was an eye-opener. If you haven’t seen it, please do.
