    It’s time to stop getting suckered into these things to appear “tough”, especially to those pushing for it, until it looks like he might do something. Terrible as the situation is, we do NOT need to make things worse, again.

    Do you mean these that voted for it?
    And a hundred other Democrats.

    That’s what they call “compassionate Conservatism”!

    Would those Democrats have voted for the invasion had they been told the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?
    Instead of the lies spread by the GOP?

    I miss Bill Clinton. He just dropped some bombs on Sudan real quick-like after the embassy bombings and left it at that. Couldn’t we have done that already, as soon as we were certain Syria used nerve agent? Geez.

    The only real target I can think of is Syria’s Air Force, they are using it so take part of it out and say we will bomb again if you use chemical weapons again.

    @Gary McSpook

    The information came from France, the United Nations as well as our own government. The Iraqi’s had a disinformation program to make it look like chemical weapons. This was admitted to by Saddam’s own people.

    Listen I thought the Iraq war was a bad idea but some good did come from it giving the Iraqis a chance to make a decent life for themselves. President Obama pulled out and now there is a civil war in Iraq that you don’t hear on the news, so really you don’t have the right to talk about the truth.

    While I agree that we should never have gone into Iraq, I find your partisanship in this message disturbing. McNamara lied about the Gulf of Tonkin, which was the precipitant to escalation into war in Vietnam, but somehow, you fail to mention it.

    America needs to kick the meddling habit. We already have a mess, er, country to take care of. (Not to mention a climate.)

    Even Fidel Castro came out of his column writing retirement to say that attacking Syria is a bad idea. (Huffpost)

    Why do we keep saying we will not tolerate crimes against humanity, genocide, mass murder, etc.? Keep standing tall and saying “Never Again!” Saying those things is the same as saying we will DO something about them. Which we won’t. At least, not unless our own interests are involved in other ways. I don’t know that we have any other choice, so long as the world is organized as it is.

    What astonishes me, is although everyone in the discussion on this page, left and right, seems to pretty much agree that Syria is not our concern, and that we should not get involved, they still feel obliged to sneer and spit at one another while they agree with them. What hope has that watchword of the American Revolution, “United We Stand, Divided We Fall,” when we are so nasty to one another even when we agree? (Personally, I think one side is more guilty of this crap than the other … but there is no need here to say which one.)

    So your contention is that it would be better if we were still in Iraq in a combat status?
    I doubt you’d find much support for that ill-conceived notion.
