The joys of having an immigration service and an external empire killing people in their own countries. Blow back is a pain.

Or we could just “pass it so we can find out what’s in it”.

Actually, the image is a pretty good representation of the way a lot of things go through congress, or fair to go through congress.

Why don’t we see anything about the illegal immigrants besides the Hispanics?

@Onguard…exceedingly humorous! Well done. Does Congress go down with the bill?

The problem is always that so many amendments are “poison pills” and not even their sponsors actually BELIEVE in the amendments they are proposing! Just the usual Congressional gamesmanship and bleep.

“Amendments for Dummies” or “How to Kill Good Bills and Pass Bad Ones”. Required reading for Congressmen with attendance at annual seminars required.

But carrying other people’s luggage through customs is a big no-no!

If you want to know why all the amendments are being attached to the bill to kill it, just follow the money. There are plenty of businesses in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California that thrive on ultra-cheap labor. These businesses lobby Congress to keep their sweet deal going and prevent immigration reform. Here are two reports from NPR from both sides of the issue. The second one is very informative.

Yes, but few bills get over 100 amendments from the same senator who is not even planning to vote for the bill, but hopes that some of his terrible amendments will pass and bring the bill down since he doesn’t have the votes to kill it on his own.

The Hispanics are the ones the Tea Party is guaranteed to fear and hate. So they show up in the right-wing advertisements.

It seems that other than actors and comedians (good ones at that) Canadians don’t seem to be fleeing their medical system, or “poverty” to rush south to the States and illegal emigration from their “confiscatory government” and social structure.

Considering that Mexico once owned most of the American southwest, until the late 1800’s in fact, or that “Hispanics” were in the southern “U.S.”, including Florida and Louisiana, for some 200 years before the “Anglos” arrived, all the flap and arrogance of the “Anglo” population does seem a bit overboard with respect to history.

I must admit that I see English as the nation’s language, and the bilingual printing, especially of driver’s license tests or other government documents DOES bother me, I still think that most Americans should at least be familiar with more than one language, be it German, Russian, Chinese, OR Spanish. Yes, we are a “mixed culture”, but why don’t we see printings in German or Cherokee, or Mandan, Sioux, or in the Pacific Northwest-Russian, to reflect linguistic history and fact?

Because we have no German states near. But we do have Spanish speaking near. It makes sense to speak it living on the boarder. In Europe knowing two languages at the very least is usual. Knowing 4 is more common than not. Here knowing you own language is rare.

    Blame it on the Plutocrats.

Very ironic that you were THE FIRST person to mention Hispanics in this thread.
