Frankly we have no one but ourselves to blame. We make democracy restrictive and don’t encourage voting. We allow the offices to be bought and sold at all levels. These people are just following the capitalistic system we instituted and using it in their political office.
In comparisons with history, these times have been actually much cleaner. But we should not condone the fact the majority of our leaders’ time is spent fund raising for the next election, instead of actually working on our problems.

That’s very reasonable and nearly exactly my thoughts. The bad thing is, that amidst all our material comfort and security relative to past eras, our societies are also greatly interconnected and subject to rumors and dis-information that misdirect our decisions.
For instance, see how the stock market daily jumps up and down on government reports or situations all around the world. How reports of terrorism in far away places strike fear into everyone with the eventual result that basic liberties are eroding. I can’t help but think that wickedly clever people play steadily on our fears for their own benefits.
If you want to read of a completely corrupt government, top to bottom, read articles about current conditions in Illinois. Disgraceful, on nearly Biblical proportions.

Given Toles’ bent about local DC politics (in particular the subway), I think people are reading this one too broadly… Looks like another city govt rant from him.

Back when I lived in my old apartment, most of the other building tennents couldn’t be bothered to walk across the street to vote. However, they were more than happy to vote on inane “reality” shows like American Idol.

Perhaps, but it still applies.

Term Limits, kick all of them out…… regularly…… Eliminate their pension, Social Security for them, only. All laws passed apply to Congress and the WH, no exemptions.

And who’s been in charge of DC for the last few decades? And Detroit, Chicago, etc.?

Dars, the Wilson Building is the DC City Hall.

Throw the bums out, if it doesn’t work throw them out again till it does. Also might want to pass a minor law that will give a small bit of privacy to our elected so good people will want to go to congress. Might not be legal but we should try.

The democrats are criminals ,the republicans are morons.

Are you sure Walker won in part because in Wisconsin a recall on an incumbent has the right to unlimited funds. A law passed about a decade ago under democrats. They knew he would have that advantage.

With the allowance of money to take over from voting or our speech in the hall of ideas now if you are backed by big money it is your ideas that get listened too. Not the poor voter.

Hard pressed to see any bit of the sun in the hoards of corrupt souls. They may be OK when they get there, but within days or weeks they too sell their souls for various amounts of money.
It’s like that question about prostitutes, it’s just haggling on the price.
