This is about statehood for D.C, right? Would be nice. What the GOP-led House is doing to that city this year is – again – beyond contempt…

DC has no voting rights in national elections, and its over 600,000 residents are given one non-voting member of the House. When a bill came up recently concerning the governing of DC, the House Republicans refused to even let the representative speak.

dc has a bigger population than wyoming. but, wy gets 3 votes (2 senate and 1 rep), dc gets nothing. dc also has a lot of law enforcement agencies ie dc police, capitol police, park police, fbi, etc…plus the traffic is horrible, and the roadway network is a mess like dupont circle.

It’s a disgrace the way we disenfranchise our own citizens just because they live in D.C. I think it’s pretty safe to say that had the writers of the Constitution anticipated the growth of the population in the District, they would not have separated it from the rest of the country.

I do like the fact that the D.C. License plates say “Taxation Without Representation”!

This is an example of our fine democracy. Together with the 60% majority, the filibuster and holds in the senate.

@ruff
No small surprise, and look who abuses the filibuster routinely.

Republicans seem concerned about so many people voting. So they are making sure to limit it in 14 states just in time for the presidential vote. Targeting mainly the poor, of color, Democrats and Independents.

That is the solution, give it back to MD except for the Federal buildings and then MD can charge Virginian that work there income tax.

That growth you mentioned is fueled by lobbyists and hacks and consultants and media and so on. The low rumbling noise you hear is George Washington rotating at a steady 1000 RPM…

I have always been in favor of one vote per person and majority of votes wins. You wouldn’t believe the amazement of foreigners when they learn how our voting system really works.

On the one hand, a court decides the federal mafia cannot blanket enforce a ban on gay marriage with a national law. Still waiting for these brave souls in the courts to demand States’ Rights for drug laws, gambling, etc.

Obviously you have not been to Texas.
