Republicans want the Federal Government to look bad. Then they can go back to rule by the 1% (for the 5%) like it was in “The gilded age”. The Democrats are better, though not by nearly enough. At least they want our Democracy to succeed. As long as the American public is fooled by the current flood of propaganda, nothing will change. The voting system (winner take all in a popularity contest) will never allow a third party nor meaningful discussion of issues.

Santorum wants to end public schooling. Only about 2/3 graduate from high school now so a lot of people won’t notice.

rocky, how you can get that from a man saying he wants to end federal involvement in the public school process, leaving it up to the local community and the parents to decide how best to educate their children is beyond me. Money and funding is the problem.

Electing a guy who says separation of church and state makes him want to throw up? Yes, yes it could get worse.

Maybe Santorum should have paid back the $67,000 that PA spent on HIS kids for a charter school when they didn’t meet PA’s residency requirements. How was he the senator when they didn’t meet these requirements? Oh that’s right – rules are for OTHER peple.

How so? Are you saying that schools have too little, too much, that the mere existence of money harms education? Please be specific, education is too important for us not to root out it’s problems.

Increase the pay of elementary school teachers to attract more smart and talented people. Do more project oriented teaching at every level. Teach a lot of math and science, but not in the abstract — connect the subjects to real problems — for example, have the students survey the school — they will need to learn some trigonometry. Teach languages, teach world history. Most kids are curious — why do they lose their curiosity by the time they get to university?

Introduce a formal apprentice program for the kids that do not want to go to college. Create a skilled labor force that can compete on the world market. Not everything can be done by robots. And they have to built too.

I appreciate the input lc, but I was hoping for a reply from bruce. He was trying to make a point about public school funding, but was too vague. I was hoping he would give us some details of what he meant.
