Here in FL we still have new homes being built because some people don’t want to live in a used, abandoned, or foreclosed home.

Not to mention the fact that a new home can’t be Grandfathered in as easily as an existing structure, so the property taxes can be that much higher!
I lived in St. Pete, and could see the tax difference between my house, and a virtually identical property next door be as much as $2000 at the end of the year!

That’s because home prices took a big time nose dive after the housing bubble burst. It just about costs as much to build a new home as it is to buy an existing home. Its a buyer’s market.

You’re telling me. I live in Sunny Isles and one of my home boys lives in Naples. His property taxes are lower than mine! They’re gonna raise my taxes by as much as 7% to make up for lost revenue due to the housing crash.

I was going to move up to Lake county IL a few years back but real estate taxes up there are unreal. Down here in Cook county (home of Chicago) my real estate tax is about $4,000 a year. Also down here there is a 4 lane road evey mile and things are built up already. In Lake county they are puting in housing developements and still have 2 lane roads. It’s gridlock city.

And here I thought that FLA was a “Republican” state! My bad! Only a Dem state would dare raise taxes, right?

No, California was screwed long ago by Republicans and is falling apart, because they can’t raise taxes on property until it changes hands. Completely and totally unfair. It means the whole state needs to be run on income and sales, and it’s a disaster. My parents did okay, though — they bought 40 years ago and never moved. Sorry, suckers!

California has severe limitations on building too which helps to account for some of the excessive high prices there.

occupy dc had no right to build a wood structure. They are morons who don’t know the difference between free speech and stepping all over the rights of everyone else.

If “Dexter” is to be believed, they all have mold problems from discarded bodies in the crawlspaces.
