My favorite Mousekeeter was Darlene Gillespie. She just recently celebrated her 70th birthday. Unfortunately, she didn’t have success in the entertainment industry after the Mickey Mouse Club. She was arrested a few times for shoplifting. Her older sister, Pat, lived in the same Westminster, California subdivision I lived in during the mid-1960s. I met her when part of the Indian Maidens programs sponsored by the YMCA.

I ran home from school every day to see Annette in Black and White.

My 11 year old libido in 1955 didn’t know what to do with itself at that time. I knew what I wanted but I just couldn’t get it.

So long Annette. Thanks for the memories.

God bless Annette. My big brother used to go to the movies about every Friday night with his buddies and when I was a little kid he would take me to the movies with him. He would only go to rock ‘n roll movies. Like Elvis, and the beach movies, and Beatles et cetera. So I probably saw every Annette beach movie . I was seven and my brother and his buddies were 17. We ALL loved her. She really WAS this country’s sweetheart. I truly honor her strength, grace, and how she handled her MS. God bless Annette. There will never be another. What a gracious icon. She was part of generations and generations. One of a kind. After all these years of her painful illness, we can be comforted knowing she now knows peace.
I will also do a tribute in NANCY in a few weeks.

No disrespect, but I used to have “certain” dreams about Annette. Glad I’m still around to have them.

My Mom claims to have a photo of me kissing the TV when Annette was on….. she has yet to produce said photo, but I believe her anyway.
