Urban guns are glorified tools for mayhem. Children’s interactions with guns usually turn out quite badly for the children.

Today’s NRA is not the NRA of 40 years ago. They used to be in favor of universal background checks. No longer.

Your “artist’s imputation” is quite the straw man.

By the way, is that avatar from the Blip webcomic?

Take a look at the New England Journal of Medicine article from January titled “Preventing Gun Deaths in Children”, written by two pediatricians. Using 2010 data, there’s an average of 7 deaths per day among Americans 1 to 19 years of age from gun-related injuries. In this age range, “gun injuries cause twice as many deaths as cancer, 5 times as many as heart disease, and 15 times as many as infections.” KenseidenXL’s numbers (if true; I didn’t confirm them) are for gun deaths in public schools, perhaps only in classrooms.
By the way, today’s NRA wants us to take extraordinary measures to prevent those deaths, by arming school staff and adding armed security.

Excellent editorial—and all too true. Aside from capitalism, gun worship has become the true religion of our society. Any intelligent people would have abolish the obsolete Second Amendment by now and prohibited all private ownership of weapons. But we U.S. citizens (not “Americans” since that term includes all citizens of Canada, Mexico, and Central and South America, for they also share this continent) have not shown ourselves to be be especially logical or rational. For myself, I’ll continue to vote for the most progressive candidates available in every election and donating to gun control activist groups.

Not always, at least not intentionally. Fooling around, cleaning a loaded gun, a kid finding a gun—sorry, your logic fails.

And people without guns (especially assault weapons) have a whole lot harder time killing and maiming several people in the space of a few minutes.

What about illegal use of drugs? Oh wait, liberals don’t want to talk about that.

Your right, take a kid out to the woods blow a few melons away and they will never touch a gun without Mon and Dad around.

When I was a kid back in 1976, just before summer break for the Bicentennial my school had some patriotic themes and activities going on. One was to show how people lived back in the day during the revolutionary war. They built a hay bail gun range and fired off a few flint locks. It was done by adults and the bails were two deep. It was great and it told me if that was the old stuff what can we do now. It was awesome and a good lesson.

..actually..the conservatives are to blame for the massive amount of abortions…by not allowing any abortions at all in their policy they destroy thousands upon thousands of babies in their wake.If they could compromise on allowing the morning after pill, abortions in case of rape or incest, and especially abortions in case of the mother’s life in jeoprardy, actual discussions on which most liberals would agree on could become laws in which MOST abortions are outlawed.Imagine a world where abortion is only allowed in case of the mother’s health, rape or incest.75%-90% of all abortions would not happen.

The consevatives intentional ignore this fact because the topic brings them votes and power.

They depower women in ways they would never publicly depower gun owners.

They do this because they consider corporations more human then over half of our population.

Of course places like FOX News twist this knowledge into edible crackers that sour the mind and the belly but tastes sweet going down…

Politics aside, I’m more interested in the fact that god (any god) does not answer this (or any) prayer, and does not stop this sort of thing. He/she/it/they just stand by and watch the gunman do his thing. Then again, it’s pretty difficult for a being who does not exist to care much about anything.

Fail. I thought “god” was omni-this and omni-that. What’s the matter? He can’t handle a few impartial court decisions?

Actually, what has been established is that a particular religion is not permitted to dominate legally; that’s a little different that what you said.

So, you have an excuse when god doesn’t intervene, as well as a reason why he doesn’t. How does that differ from non-existence? And do you really think that the Newtown parents really give a week-old rat’s turd about the killer’s free will? No matter what their religious persuasion?

And by the way, I’m not fussing. The less theocracy, the better. I was pointing out that god never seems to do anything helpful, in the way of preventing evil. Which, somehow, I thought was at least part of his job description.

Do you have any evidence that your particular god exists?
