    Supposedly the selection is guided by God. My question — if God is really in charge, why can’t he get it right on the first vote? Why don’t they all instantly agree and have done with it. God may be omnipotent and omniscient, but he’s not very efficient.

    Because God didn’t cast the vote Himself. He lets humankind do it. Humans have been refusing to listen to God since the first two prototypes were released to Beta test the garden of Eden.
