    Well, that is one solution.

Sort of like a story I heard about a town meeting in the 1800’s; there was an epidemic and people were afraid of being mistaken for dead and therefore buried alive. Some bright spark suggested that all coffin lids be fitted with a 12” spike where the heart of the deceased would be. No one said it had to be a nice solution.

SO much more efficient than simply cutting the men’s pay in half!

I once saw a lecture on TV in which an author divided his audience between men and women, then asked them to raise their hands in answer to questions like “Have you ever worked more than 80 hours in a week?”, “Have you ever worked with hazardous materials?”, “Have you ever worked in a dangerous environment?”, and so forth. After clearly demonstrating from the audience responses that there is a great difference between jobs that men and women are willing to take, he presented the point of his book – that when these and similar factors are taken into account, the pay disparity between men and women disappears … with one interesting exception: beautiful women make far more money. Hardly seems fair, don’t it?

pschearer: I couldn’t agree more. There are other factors as well but in general I think that issue is over. Perhaps it wasn’t over at the time however since this comic is obviously from 1986 or something as evidenced by the fact that I think it’s pretty funny.

(Checked mike’s site and it’s from ‘04) Too bad Bucky, too bad. You’ve lost that looooooving feeeeeliin - ooooh that looooooovin - etc

pschearer: When employees answer such questions you usually get lots of exaggerations, if not outright lies.

The last place I worked, those who accomplished the least were always making claims of working ridiculously long hours. This seemed true for both sexes. It was very seldom when I had to work more than 40 hours a week to get my work completed, probably because I was actually working during those hours.

jtpozenel: So what you’re inferring is that, since the men resoundingly responded more when asked who worked more hours and under harsher conditions, that men are far more prone to be liars than women?

I can’t say I like either stance, but I’m too lazy right now to look up any studies done on the subject. That’s me personally, not necessarily as a representative of my gender.

NoBrandName: Men have to compete for higher salaries, so I do believe that they are capable of more outrageous lies, not that they lie more.

I don’t base my opinions on any studies on the subject. I base them on my own experiences in the workplace.
