Alternate punchline:
“Mr. Waters, do you have a second? This seems like a great time to explain to you the benefits of Life Insurance.”
I think it would be a funny gag about young lawyers - that he believes he’s done the guy a favor by having the voltage reduced which we know, of course, does nothing to change the verdict so he can only hope to sit in the chair longer. Unfortunately, we all know Bucky isn’t capable of making that joke.
A good punchline should still surprise you despite your effort to anticipate it.
(No, I do not declare my above punchline to be good.)
Consider every other serial media you consume such as failblog, engrish.com or perhaps the onion.
At times you find yourself glossing over a few posts to get to the next one that really makes you laugh out loud. You might pass 10 entries before you get there but when you do it’s worth it and so you continue to read it often.
In contrast: I have yet to laugh audibly at one of Buckys awful strips. I think his best has still been the kind of medicrity I skip on other sites.
But I don’t think it’s a rehash. (there Mom… I said ‘anything nice’)
Q: Then why do you comment on it force-o-dummy? *wipes nose on sleeve
A: To give you hypocrites something you dislike, to comment on.

From the look on the convict’s face, I’d say he knows what’s going to happen with “reduced voltage”.

Is reduced voltage like reduced charge?
forceonatr said, 2 months ago
hehe Lew… too bad Bucky doesn’t reduce his sentences. But do you see how your ‘reduced charge’ line would challenge the reader to grasp the joke? (something resembling a punchline)
Also - Doesn’t the guy look like a muppet… Like Bert or the newscaster (can’t remember his name) from Sesame Street.

Hey forceonatr, what are you rambling about? It’s just a comic strip.

“I’ve got great news, Carl! I managed to get the charge reduced!”
I agree with Lewreader and forceonatr… charge is way funnier and good for a nice little head scratch in this context over voltage…

If I were in charge of the Switch ofr Ol Sparky, I would turn it on and off real fast several times for several minutes
