   Is ‘death rattle’ a simile, analogue, metaphor, negated irony, subversive irony, synonym, antonym or onomatopoeia?

   If no, then why not “He’s so cute with his death cheeks” or “He’s so cute because he’s a baby death!”
   (see, no joke. no damned cat, no damned cradle.)

   There’s a dearth of comedy here in case you were trying to find it. From the all-seeing wiki: A death rattle is a gurgling noise produced shortly before or after death by the accumulation of excessive respiratory secretions in the throat.
   Hilarious. You know what else it isn’t: A phrase anyone at all has used in the last 50 years.

   I read about a dozen “Far Side” wannabees every day hoping that one will be as good as the “Far Side” was. Usually, there is one; on rare occasions, two. This comic gets my vote today. Vintage “Far Side” type of humor.

   I don’t think either of us really take it seriously Lippone, it’s just fun to post on it. Also - go back through the Quigmans if you’re so certain I couldn’t do better. Anyone could do better and I have suggested better punchlines 50 times. (Not my Nightmare on Elm Street one, though… they didn’t care for that one)

   This strip is simply almost never funny. You are, however, free to pretend that it is. Comparing it to the Far Side is a disgrace as that was the single most brilliant single pane strip ever produced and will probably remain unmatched forever now that our intelligence is (emperically) on the wane.

Those who are dying may lose their ability to swallow, resulting in such an accumulation. While it is medically established[citation needed] that the death rattle is a strong indication that someone is near death, it can also be produced by other problems that cause interference with the swallowing reflex, for instance, brain injuries.

   It is sometimes misinterpreted as the sound of the person choking to death. In terminal care, drugs such as glycopyrronium, hyoscine hydrobromide or atropine may be used to reduce secretions and minimise this effect.

   Death rattle may also be used to refer to machines. A machine (usually an engine) with death rattle typically suffers from a spun bearing or other major mechanical failure, causing it to make unusual noises.

   If the strip is neither funny nor original why do you take the time out of your day to read it and then comment?

   I know what a death rattle is – maybe because my mom is a nurse – but as a result, I actually smiled when I read this. The artwork is, as usual, juvenile and uninspired, but I didn’t mind the punchline. In fact, I checked to see if there was a second name on it because I couldn’t imagine that Bucky had actually written it.

   ENG8INE, because it’s fun to read and criticize such an easy target. Because, as I said before, I actually liked the Quigmans back in the late 80s and am sad to see what it’s become. Because I love reading what farleft and force say – they’re funnier than most of the strips around. And, maybe most importantly, because it’s hysterical that it annoys people so much. Schadenfreude, my friend. :)

    Nothing makes me yawn more vigorously than a self-appointed genius who tries to casually mention how prodigious he believes himself to be.
    I think most of the people in this thread are exceptionally cosmopolitan. Let us even suggest they are enough so that we need not pronounce it to eachother.

    I’ve seen your site, farleft, and even have it bookmarked. :) I completely believe that you were writing it because via these comments you’ve proven yourself far funnier than Bucky could ever be.
