    But hopefully she got a comfortable bed, a tasty dinner, a bit of sunlight and fresh air and room to stretch her wings.

    Hopefully.

    On my experience, organic eggs are worth the extra money. Not just for the chicken, but for the eater’s tase buds.

    So a chicken that someone thinks is happy is going to lay better eggs? How naive is that?

    Right on Dale and anyone who will spend $6 for a dozen eggs has too much money and DESERVES to be fleeced.

    Look around, folks. There are still people out there that will have a cooler full of eggs on a table by the road, selling eggs. Some even still use the honor system and you self pay. These are chickens that scratch around the yard and make the best tasting eggs.

    It’s all part of the concept of buying local food. Not “farmers markets” which quite often are just a rip. Take a drive and hit the back roads and find the small produce farmer that has a stand.

    Dale, livestock happiness is measured by stress levels. Unstressed, or happy, livestock really do produce at higher levels. All farmers know this.

    Around here a dozen organic, cage free eggs are nowhere near that price. I buy them for $2.65 (Pete & Gerry’s)

    So true! People who haven’t researched it or tried it are always the first to mock it.

    “Think about it, if you don’t put fertilizer on plants, what do you put on to get them to grow?”
    Just what do you think the main ingredient of most fertilizers are?

    I am not sure of that. When you serve four to six cases of eggs a day, (15 dozen,) you find that the taste of organic eggs isn’t consistent. Actually three eggs sunny-side, can each taste different.

    The weight and measure inspectors only are interested in the total weight of the carton, so if the carton weighing 24 ounces is marked “LARGE” it can contain all sizes of eggs from pee-wee to JUMBO, and still be legally large eggs.

    So called “Organic” farmers get away with murder.

    @Charles Smith

    If a hen eats garlic well on the free range her egg will taste much different than a regular diet bird’s egg.

    you’ve never spent much time around chickens have you. lets just say they make cows and sheep look smart. which of course exist to make horses look smart.
