    Sounds counterintuitive, I know, but if you don’t want insects around, inside or out, nurture spiders. They’re the best pest catchers (and eaters) around.

    I love the little jumping spiders (if any spider could be called cute, these are) I find in the house, although I worry they’re not going to find food inside. Sometimes I try to capture them and put them outside.

    But wolf spiders? Nope. Too dang big. OUT into the yard with them.

    I agree and I’m a major arachnophobe. Unless one drops off the ceiling on me and I start swinging (just an instinct) I have learned to hide my fear and try to capture them in a jar (with lid of course) and bring them outside. As much as they scare me there are creatures that frighten me far worse ie filthy disease infested ticks & mosquitoes

    @zuria

    Yes, the little jumping spiders are very good to keep around. We named ours Boris.

    I agree, I have a peace treaty with spiders in my flat, don’t charge me and I won’t squish you. I’d rather deal with spiders that skeeters. Plus like zuria says the little jumping ones are neat as hell.

    I like spiders, just so that they don’t crawl into my mouth to die.

    I have a spider living between the floor and the foot of the tub in the bathroom. I’ve nicknamed her Charlotte. As long as she stays in her corner, I will let her keep down the other bugs for me.

    I had a bathroom spider. Must have been male because he died of old age and no offspring. On the other hand….. for the few months he was there, he grew plump and I had no bugs.
    .
    but those wolf spiders? When did they stop listening to the peace treaty? They won’t stay in the jar long enough for you to race to the window?

    tiny spiders stay inside (much to my wife’s chagrin) but we don’t have other buggies… bigger spideys just get a fast trip to the great outdoors! don’t hate on the arachnids :)
