They can’t get the weather forecast right three days out, yet they can tell with certainty what it will be a hundred years from now. Yeah, right!

I don’t know where you live, but I get 7-day forecasts online (Weatherbug,, etc.) and they’re generally spot on.
And no one but a street-corner prophet claims to tell with certainty what will happen in a hundred years. In science, you look at past trends, current data, and any future conditions that seem plausible, and you project all of that into the future…usually a high, low, and most probable projection to reflect that you don’t know the future with certainty.
Then the news media dumbs it all down into catchy-but-wrong sound bites — absolute statements with no explanation, or qualifiers — and maybe a graphic that has nothing to do with anything.
Then the public, which has no stomach for uncertainty and only wants straight yes-or-no, up-or-down answers, misunderstands the whole subject, and elects another empty suit who tells them what they want to hear anyway.
