The heck is that? I don’t understand British cuisine sometimes. But, I do know every dessert is called pudding.

Depends on which part of the country you’re in.
    .
To me it’s “dessert”; some people call it “sweet”, others; “pudding”. Anyway what’s so great about US cuisine? Meat loaf? burgers? Hot dogs?

We got a late start. Chili was invented in Mexico before you Eupropeans got here. A lot of what we have was adopted from others. Potatoes, maize, peppers (capsicum) peanut have been adopted in a few places.

I’m not really sure that there is a distinctive American cuisine. We are a country of mongrels, and as such, have assimilated and incorporated the food of many cultures into our diet. Everything from Native American, African, Asian, and European tastes have fused into American foods.
A perfect example would be the Mexican tacos filled with Korean barbecue that have become ubiquitous in L.A.
At it’s best, cooking in the U.S. is a delightful, delicious fusion. At it’s worst, it’s Burger King !

Oh stop beating around the bush. British food sucks. Especially when compared to French, Spanish, Italian or Indian food.

Decades of rationing in the 20th century are “often blamed for the decline of British cuisine”.

Burger King used to do a good bean burger and great thickshakes……haven’t partaken for a long while.
    .
Talking about mongrels…..The UK’s been invaded (and taken in the huddled masses) so many times, we no longer know who we are.

Speaking as someone who eats British food most of the time, I say you are wrong. French food is over elaborate, Spanish food can be pretty basic, Italian ain’t that special. I do agree about Asian food, though. :-)

Scrapple? Scrapped apples? Screwed up pineapple? I’ll have to look that one up.
