“Ten pound woman”? I’ve heard of starvation diets, but that’s going too far.

Jane Austin on the 10 pound note – every schoolboy’s dreaded reading assignment now sat on regularly. :-D

I don’t think too many people look at the pictures on bank notes, or even care what they are. Just as long as the notes are worth something. The most boring money I’ve ever seen is that of the US.

It’s been a huge issue here in the UK with a massive petition signed to ensure that there’s still a woman on our banknotes (the Queen doesn’t count LOL) when Elizabeth Fry is replaced by Winston Churchill in 2017. So I guess people do look …

It’s not the image on the notes that’s important . . . it’s the size!
Will it fit in my wallet?

Given the typical worship of money over here, it would be considered blasphemous to alter the faces of the true gods. Which explains the continued existence of the penny and the paper one dollar bill.

There are so few “authenticated” portraits of Austen. Kudos to the researchers on getting this done!

so, the uk is changing bank notes, and spending millions on a internet filter that blocks porn, dating sites, social media sites, gambling, gaming, and anything else that the conservative party hates, but the filter is controlled by a company with ties with the chinese gov’t. if one has to opt out, then their name goes into the sex offender database.

I’d rather see adventurers, scientists and fighters for human freedom on them than just presidents. Ben Franklin was anything but a statesman, and Alexander Hamilton was an ardent Federalist who was important in the changing or our Articles of Confederation to a Federal Constitution, died in a duel with Aaron Burr.

James Joyce is on the Irish 10 pund note. It was said he always wanted to be a singer; now he’s a tenner.

Yes, & every misogynist over there is acting just like a schoolboy about this. Well, the “nicer” misogynists.

Here in Sweden, we have Selma Lagerlöf (novelist) at the 20 kronor bill, Jenny Lind (opera singer) at the 50 kronor bill, Carl von Linné (scientist) at the 100 kronor bill, Carl XI (king) and Christopher Polhem (inventor) at the 500 kronor bill and Gustav (I) Vasa (king) at the 1000 kronor bill.

Why not Gustav II Adolf ? He was one of the most brilliant military commanders in Western history, and came near to conquering all of central Europe. If it were not for his untimely death in battle, Sweden might have been a Great Power for centuries.
