I, Claudius … talk about obscure references! How many people remember that show? I’d only seen a few episodes… particularly the one with Caligula.
    (Classier than the movie, anyway)

Try the book and its sequel (Claudius the God), which have been huge bestsellers over the years since Robert Graves published them. He took some significant liberties with the historical characters, but they’re still good books.

      imagine padTheGod.

    That’d be a Grave mistake.

lol, they’re great books! It’s historical fiction, so there’s some ‘fleshing out’, especially in dialogue of course, but I’m not sure about the taking “significant liberties with the historical characters” . . .

Graves had previously translated Suetonius himself, and he used Plutarch, Tacitus as well . . .

For whatever reason we used to call the series ’ I Claud dibs ‘. Don’t even remember why…
Graves’ books are really great reads, if slightly inaccurate.

…I remember the show VERY well, as does mst of my family – it was an excellent program! When my sister visited Italy, she went on a tour that included Livia’s house…

I remember that show! I saw a lot of me in there! I had a stuttering problem when I grew up with my Mother’s abusive husband. When I left, the stuttering stopped. The prediction by the Sybline was in 1900 hundred years, you will speak clear and the two books " I Claudius," and “Claudius The God,” came out that’s when he spoke clearly again. I think it’s avaiible on DVD.

Claudius was also a lot smarter than his so-called family gave him credit for.

iDon’t care about iPad2, iPad3, or iPad423. It’s still too big for a portable media player and too small to be a true computer.

At least once our local PBS station ran it as is no cuts. Glorious.
