so that gets banned but books like Anne Rice’s sleeping beauty trilogy don’t? Who gets to make these decisions? (and no I don’t think the sleeping beauty trilogy should be banned, just using it as an example)

    Here’s the poem:
    .
    “Ice Capades”
    .
    by: Sonya Sones
    .
    Sometimes
    .
    on chilly nights
    .
I stand close to my bedroom window,
    .
    unbutton my nightgown,
    .
    and press my breasts
    .
    against the cold glass
    .
    just so I can see
    .
    the amazing trick
    .
    that my nipples can do.
    …………………………………………………………….
    .
Not particularly good poetry in my opinion, but if any individual or commitee wants to ban this then what, in another art form, would would that individual or committee
do with the statues of David and the Venus de Milo?

I don’t think David’s much to be disgusted over. Seen bigger mice.

Well, I remember that whole uproar about the Attorney General’s office ordering a statue of the Spirit of Justice to be covered with drapes because it showed an exposed breast.

The number-one argument I hear about things like this is “I don’t want my children exposed to things like that!”. It seems that parents want to keep their kids in a perpetual state of ignorance until they’re 18- and then shove them out into the world and expect them to be well-adjusted, normal adults.

…you mean those parents who’s argument is really “I don’t want my children exposed to things like that {BECAUSE THEY THEN ASK ME QUESTIONS THAT I DON’T FEEL COMFORTABLE ANSWERING}”…these are the same parents who say that sex education should be taught at home, but then don’t teach it…way to go…

Of course the real reason Ashcroft ordered the statue covered is that he couldn’t stand being upstaged by another boob in the room.

Does the book have photographs? Otherwise, how could “nudity” possibly be an issue?

    @Tirasmol

    Hi Tirasmol,

The Sleeping Beauty trilogy was banned. It’s on the 100 most frequently challenged book from 1990-1999 on the American Library Association web site. www.ala.org. It’s unbelievable some of the books that are part of the lists that are on this web site.

Note that Michael Angelo’s David has never had a brist. I understand the original David was very upset. Maybe a mohel cold correct the problem?
