    I can only translate Beethoven’s, anyone else want to tackle the others?

    French – this is not a king, Spanish – you sank my battleship, and Herr Beethoven is obvious.

    The balloon panel says,
    “¡Mira lo que tengo en eBay!”

    Panel 4 is a joke most people today won’t get. That red balloon with the outlines of the continents on it was the symbol of the BBC during the late 90’s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_One_%27Balloon%27_idents

    Thanks for the BBC info, Pab. I certainly didn’t get that reference. I am very ashamed.

    Susan Newman:
    I think the next to last panel is Queen Vic and her eldest son Albert-Edward, better known as Edward, Prince of Wales. I recognized him from the pics on my dad’s Prince Edward Cigars boxes when I was a child. :-) It’s the same Edward that Pab usually shows talking with Victoria, just when he was a few years older than the one we normally see here.

    The puppet bodies in the last panel belong to King Friday XIII and his Queen, from “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.”
    I never knew Queenie was a puppet ruler.

    If you think I never go after Obama, I refer you to the strip from May 30, 2009. I was planning to re-run it next week, but I’d rather shoot you down now. There’s also a very harsh week about Obama that’s included in “Unamused Birds.” Why not pre-order a copy and see for yourself.

    From Wikipedia;
    “Who Put the Bomp (In the Bomp, Bomp, Bomp)” is a Doo-wop style hit song from 1961 co-written (with Gerry Goffin) and recorded by Barry Mann. He was backed up by The Halos"

    Thanks, Pab. I only know BBC from my cable’s BBCA, and have only watched shows there since getting TiVo (allowing me to record all that I like and watch it when I prefer). I understood the Spanish and French only and glad that Corque corrected Steverino.
