Thanks, Pab. We won’t forget what it means to be free, nor those who gave all so that we could be in a position to know the difference.

Spot on Pab! I know where I was, that day…and will never forget!

Again i offer this strip (4 November 2001) from Clan of the Cats. (No previous knowledge of CotC needed; the only relevant bit is in the dalog.)

This strip, Mike Luckovich’s weeping Statue of Liberty and this one from Foxtrot (which appeared only thirteen days later) are my favourites of the comic reactions.

How does we fight terror, without becoming terrorists ourselves?

…the Jeff Stahler cartoon with a little girl asking her father ,”Should we hate back?’ was probably my favorite political cartoon of all time.I started reading the comics this sept. 11th for a 9/11 mention and gave up around a quarter of the way in.

3hourtour, I noticed the same. It seems those who cried “Never forget” have indeed forgotten.

    Except a select few.

    Thank you, Pab.

I remember where I was, too. Appropriately enough, American History class. I still have my text book. I wrote on the back cover, “God save us all.”

Sadly, besides Pab’s brilliant piece here, the only acknowledgments I saw were in Little Orphan Annie and The Norm. (And yes, I know The Norm was a re-run, but still.)

The same goes for Canadians. It stuns me that in the country that prides itself (no longer with adequate reason) on being the world’s peacekeepers, Omar Khadr is still the only Westerner at Guantanamo Bay.

    Thank you Pab.

Birdbrains also had a nice tribute, but as a comics archivist I was also very disappointed.
Seems I see fewer every year.

Slightly unrelated, but tonight my new podcast debuts. For those who are interested in listening in, it’s called “This Week In, This Week Out,” and includes myself and a panel of reasonably funny people as we dissect the week’s news.

The feed will become active later tonight, but it’s in place right now for those who want to sign up at http://www.lowbudgetradio.com/thisweekin.xml

We start by realizing that there are many people who believe that we are the terrorists, not they. I don’t mean that we have to agree with them, but we should at least acknowledge and consider their perspectives.

How do you fight terror without becoming a terrorist? With the law, of course.

I’m disappointed that while Pab expresses his disdain for America’s leaders, there is no hint of the hatred deserved by those who seek to kill us by the thousands.

Death to those who shout “Death to America”!

A sobering and worthy reminder. I’ll never forget, since my family and I lived in New York City at the time. Thank you, Pab, and RIP to John O’Neill and all who lost their lives on that terrible day.

Of the other strips I read online, only “Nancy” offered a full tribute this year.

Thanks for the links to these other “reminders.” And thanks for today’s, Pab.

    Pab:
I quit mourning 9/11 last year. I believe seven years is about the high-end of the standard period.

Never the less, your strip pointed out some very strong points that I have promised myself never to forget, namely that there are elements in our culture who get their way through fear and intimidation, which we are seeing this very moment in the Health Care “debate.”

I won’t forget either, which is why I refuse to dwell on the images of 9/11 anymore. If I keep going back to it, again and again, then the terrorists will surely win (hint: these terrorists call themselves “Christians,” claiming to protect us from “Muslims” and “Marxists”).
