It’s just past 1 AM EDT. Should I check back later to see if Comcrap has gotten their act together?

While I am in virtual total empathy—try being limited to dial up by budget location to 40 year old copper phone lines inside & out by Verizon, neutralizing DSL & no service for wireless. Trees block satellite usage. No cable unless I pay thouSand$ to bring it in. AND fixed income. Other than that—having net-out sucks. But I wish I HAD ComCast.

I kicked them out of my house when everytime I had a minor cable outage (frequently), my phone would be out for 2 days. Found out it was a matter of practice that whenever they do a ‘soft reset’ (ie any time they have to push the button at thier end to reinitiate my cable) the phone is SUPPOSED to go out for up to 2 days and there was nothing they would do about it. went to AT&T and never looked back.

It had gotten to the point where I started having short windows where I could actually use the internet, something like 2-3 minutes on, then 10 minutes off. I blogged about it back on the 2nd: http://cnx.com/?p=1190
When I sent up the strips for this past week, the flaky hotel connection reminded me of what I could be facing at home, so I threw together this placeholder and sent it up for today just in case.
Yesterday, I had strips ready to go for today through Wednesday, and queued them up to upload. The net had started its flakiness and I couldn’t access the GoComics server. So I set them to retry every three minutes between 6 PM (when we left to visit friends) and 1 AM, which is the “deadline” when GoComics switches days and they process the “My Comics Page” E-Mails.
The fact that this ran today is a testament to the reliability of my Comcast service. It means that for seven hours my service was so unreliable that about a 1 Meg GIF couldn’t find a window to upload.
The strip I had planned for today will eventually see the light of day, don’t worry. I did manage to get the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday strips up this morning, so there won’t be a major disruption other than today.
And always remember, just like any other monopoly, Comcast Doesn’t Care.

I had serious problems with Comcast, they sent a guy out to replace my modem, no problems since.
Now I’m worried.

To the person who’s switching from Comcast to Verizon FIOS:
Did you know that there have been cases of COmcast tech cutting Verizon fibre lines when doing installs/uninstalls?

Sorry, I’ve always had the best service from Comcast. We dropped Verizon as our telephone provider….Lots of peopl have the DSL, but I don’t know how well it works. I’d rather stick with Comcast. They’re ok by me.

i’m in Canada, and don’t have to deal with ANY of the above. (but we have our own problems with our own providers and regulatory agencies.)

I believe it does work both ways with the service providors. I have Comcast and it works pretty decent. The phone service went out about 3 weeks ago and we tried everything to get it to reboot but it wouldn’t. They had the tech come out the next day (after 3pm but hey, it ws better tahn 2 weeks!!) He fidled around with it, then bypassed the phone wiring and plugged straight into the system and voila, service. Turns out ATT had unhooked the wires for my apartment while doing another apartment hookup. THANKS ATT!!

If you are using Comcast Consumer service for uploading your business communications (comics) then you are using the wrong service. The Consumer service is designed and optimized for download service, with limits on the speed and guaranteed service for uploads. You should be using the Business Class service if you are going to rely upon upload service.
Publicly lambasting Comcast because you chose to use the wrong service reflects very poorly upon you, not Comcast.

Here in Maine, Verizon has been bought out by FairPoint. Our phone and DSL service are still fine, but then I already had the DSL under Verizon. It’s been six months, and people who signed up for new DSL with FairPoint are still waiting….

Wabac: Uploading the days’ comics is the only business activity I do on the web, My traffic for business usage peaks out at 1 Meg on Sundays, and that’s for the most elaborate of strips. Most days my upload is under 30K, about the size of a long E-Mail.
Is their consumer service so limited for uploads that YOU CAN’T SEND AN E-MAIL?
